HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA, MAY 11, 1961 Personnel Changes Effected In Hershey Estates - Retirement Of H M. Spangler With the retirement of Mr. Harry M. Spangler, 268 E. Areba Ave.; who served as comptroller and treasurer of Hershey Estates for mans, years, President J. B: Sol-lenberger announced the election of Mr, Wallace R. Mayer, as Treas-urer - and Mr. Kenneth V. Hatt as Comptroller, with Mr:, Hatt alto serving as office manager and Manager of Hershey Electric and Hershey Telephone Companies. In addition, Mr. Robert A. Houck was appointed as Internal Auditor. A ,native of Fontana, Lebanon County, Mr_. Spangler started his employment with Hershey Choco-late Corporation on September 13, 1914., .He transferred to Hershey Estates as Assistant Comptroller on December 26, 1927; advanced to Comptroller in November, 1944, and Treasurer in 1948. A son, Clarence B. Spangler, is a resident of Lancaster, was for-merly associated with Hershey Chocolate Corporation. Russell S. Spangler, 812 Cocoa Avenue, is as-sociated with the Corporation's Credit Office. There are four grandchildren, three boys and a girl. Affiliated with Hershey Estates since September, 1957, Mr. Mayer is a native of Garden City, Long Island, N. Y., came to Hershey from American Airlines. • - A graduate of Lehigh University -'48, Mr. Mayer qhalified as a CPA inlhe State 0f New York in 1952: Mr. Hatt is a 1941 graduate of Milton Hershey School; has con-tinuous employment with Hershey Estates excepting for three years (two years overseas) U. S. Army duty. Following World War II, he be-came affiliated with the Hershey Estates utilities,' and became As-sistant Comptroller in 1958. He is a President-elect of the Milton Hershey School Alumni As-sociation, following twelve years as Secretary. Kime, Bureau of Traffic, Harrisburg, who represented Colonel Frank G. McCartney, PSP Commissioner; Dr. John 0. Hershey, Superintendent, Milton Hershey School. PS! Cadets visited Farm Homes, enjoyed an evening meal with MHS students. Registration Dates Set Up For The Elementary School Registration for kindergarten and new entrants for the first grade for the school year 1961-62 will be held in the Elementary. School Princi-pal's Office from May 22 to 26. ••••• The hours for registration will be 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Policy for registration is as fol-lows: DISASTER Drill by Medical Staff' of Hershey Hospital added a touch of nostalgia. Out of the reserve fleet came the 1940 LaSalle Ambulance (now officially an antique) with Thomas Sullivan (left) at the wheel; crew members Paul A. Seavers, president, Hershey Ambulance Corps; Miss Mabel M. Lingle. A child must be 5 years old be-fore Feb. 1, 1962, to be eligible for kindergarten. . A child must be 6 years old be-fore Feb. 1, 1962, to be eligible for first grade. The birth and vaccination certifi-cates must be presented to the principal before a child may be registered. If a child attended kindergarten in Hershey, he need not register for first grade. A pre-school clinic day for parents of next year's kindergarten children will be held on Wednes-day, May 24. . Purpose of the clinic day is -to acquaint the parents with the kindergarten program. ' It explains a kindergarten day for them, tells them what is ex-pected of their children. _ It also arranges for them • to become acquainted with the auxil-iary help .which includes the art and music ,teaeher s, school mirse, dental hygienist, speech cor-rectionist; and the school psycholo-gist. . . Arrangements have been made for the care -of pre-school children who may haVe to 'accompany par-ents on this day. However, it is requested that parents do not ask the school to care for any children under 3 years of age. • , :1 1 ) Delayed by unseasonably cool weather, the 30,000 tulips at the Hershey Rose Garden are now in peak bloom; and the flowering of the tulips should continue through May 21. The 42,000 rose bushes are ex-pected to begin peak bloom on June 11. Full bloom should con-tinue for at least three weeks, ac-cording to John P. Meszaros, Di-rector of Horticulture. Prior to peak bloom, there should be a number of roses show-ing color. Beginning the second week of June, the 14,000 annual plants start to show their colors and are expected to be in full bloom by the middle of July, continuing the rest of the season until frost. The 4,000 chrysanthemum plants should start their bloom approxi-mately September 10, coming into full bloom October 8 and continu-ing in bloom until Thanksgiving Day. Visitors have ample free parking areas; and can share this beauty at no cost each day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., EDT. ELECTION DAY Election Day is Tuesday, May 16, 1961. Polls will be open from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., EDT. Bldg. Hershey, Pa. DR. A. C. BAUGHER Speaker at the Hershey Junior College Commencement to be held in the Little Theatre of the Com-munity Building at 8:00 p.m., on Monday, May 29, is Dr. A. C. Baugher, retiring president of Elizabethtown College. Member of Phi Beta Kappa, and Kappa Delta Pi, as well as being listed in Who's Who in America, the veteran educator and lecturer will present "On the Threshold of New Discoveries" as his com-mencement address to the Her-shey Junior College graduating class. Dr. Rougher taught in rural schools ef York County from 1913- 1915; has been President of Eliza-bethtown College since 1941, • Ile was Dean of Instruction and Professor of Chemistry 1922-28-41. U. S.
