Description | #101 10 January noon Hi Sweetie- Just a moment to get started in before I go the pay line - this morning's was all in one spot, but this afternoon we go jeeping all over the place and spend twenty minutes here, twenty minutes there. Nothing in the last 3 mails (a day and a half) except for that third batch of Christmas cards yesterday morning - If some days have to be missed I'm just as glad to have them come at times like this when I can't write a decent reply anyway. Darling, you've been especially close to me in the last few days, in more ways than one - at the moment I'm as ripe and ready to come for you, or for you to come to me, as I've been since I left you - must have been something I dreamt last night; I got up too quickly this morning to remember. Gosh, sweetie, I feel ready all over - if only we could be together a few minutes, even! - I'm just as glad it's not often I feel this way, to this extent. Till later, precious 5:40 pm Back to work in twenty minutes, but time for a snatch anyway. Just received #112 (having previously got #113) - love your telling about Wendy's snuggling in bed with you, and about her starting to cry when her smiling failed to impress Pat at good time! As to Wendy's being “the snuggliest, most loving sprout” - I'm sure she got that, and a lot of her other attractive personality traits - from you, darling. That's no figure of speech [pg 2] no matter how stale, flat and unprofitable this existence may seem, my dearly beloved, we are not marking time. It's obvious from a lot of little things you've written that you’re [?] your capacity for enjoyment. Even if that's sort of like saving money in a bank, there are times when, within limits, it's worthwhile. There goes the Trolley Song on the radio in a neighboring tent! First time I’d heard it. At first hearing the music doesn't seem anything special, buy the words are catchy and rather good. 9:30 pm It's so much pleasanter coming back here after work than staying at Operations. The latter I would expect and want to do in the early phase when a lot of new things are always coming up and the camp has not settled down to a routine. I wouldn't mind living with my work then, knowing that it was necessary. Now that it isn't I'm glad to get away from it. I came back to find a piece of fruit cake laid out for me by “Coach” Hager, who received (I think) five of them altogether. Yes, I will have had enough of these for this year by the time we've gone thru the ones we have. But they still taste good. To bed, sweetie, I'm really tired I love you Warren |
