Description
Letter sent by William Gustin Lowry (Gus) to his sister Margaret Judson Lowry (Mag) from a camp near Sharpsburg , Maryland on October 10 , 1862 . Gus seems to be homesick , as he spends much of the letter discussing people back home . He has also been physically sick , he writes that he was ill for around a week . Col . Sweitzer is also unwell . He notes that he misses his family and wishes to see them. Gus states that once the Army reaches its winter quarters , he will try to get a furlough and come home to visit . He closes the letter with some reports on acquaintances who had been killed in battle recently , and mentions that there are some others (such as Bob Moore) whom he has not had word of recently .
