Ping Ting May 8, 1921 Dear Ida and your boys, I excuse myself these days in thinking you know that these are strenuous times and will keep writing even if I dont get written to you personally. There is so much of sickness here (typhus and Relapsing fever and flu) and so much of the hunger that there is little inspiration to write of the joys of life except as we have joys in serving them. I dont suppose there is anyone here who gets to hear the hunger side of it in such bulk and immensity as I do in the Recruiting Department. But rains have come and new hope and promise have spring up, and we think that some day there will be food again. I have some of the greatest experiences in my work. Five gangs went off work and went home, something did not suit them. When they got home
