of an irregularity in the ser vices held by the congregation styling themselves ms st mark's reformea church after nearly four years of prosperity and good healthy christian work during which time there appeared to be good work done there came n series of dis turbances and troubles to the little church which had il hoi been for the steadfastness of g few members would have entirely broken np anil destroyed this little institution it was with regret that nianv of us ex perienced this condition of affair anil it seemed that i here was no other des tiny for the church but to disband as the classes of the reformed church un der whose charge we were as a mission utterly disregarded us withdrawing their support and claiming as their rea son for so doing that there was not room here for a church they not having tak en into consideration the fact that we started with a membership of only about 35 and during the four years of prosper ity referred to above increased our mem bership to about mm notwithstanding this seeming prosper ity and increasing interest in the work we were unable to get assistance from our mother church to hold evangelistic services which are the life of any church and this fact together with certain dis agreements among some of the members so discouraged the workers and even the officers of the church that they decided it would he best to disband as a reform ed church as there were several of the members who had formerly been engaged in the methodist episcopal work before the or ganization of the reformed church here and many others who were also interest ed in the same it was decided to reor ganize under the above named denomi nation with this end in view a meet ing of those interested in the reorganiza tion was called for sunday jan 24th at which time i r s av thomas presiding elder of the n w district of the phila delphia conference was present and presided over the meeting after delivering to us a very interest ing sermon he proceeded to the business portion of the reorganization which was successfully accomplished and we were launched off into our new work under the title of the prospect villem.k.church we had our first services last sabbath at which time we had the largest attend ance that we have had for nearly two years having used the entire seating capacity in the evening service and it is in iw with great pleasure that we announce to our friends and the interested public that hereafter there will be regular sab bath services morning and evening to which services we would extend to all a cordial invitation to be probably the invasion of ice companies and the decline of the old count iv mills have done much to bring this about as the only revenue was that derived from the cutting of ice and the grinding of feed only n few years ago1tinimiy"thoinp son's dam that situated just above the old mill was a fatuous resort for skaters and also a common place for the harvest of ice it was then almost three times its present size extending nearly up to the large stone bridge and affording ex cellent skating for over one-quarter of a mile the large dam on he former pager property was also a famous skating place and a great deal of ice lias been cut there the nmskrats however are chiefly responsible for there being no water within the hanks now us they were always very troublesome at that place the dam back of the old fleist mill now the property of albert beck also supplied some houses with ice but since the razing of the mill its usefulness hah been destroyed the old mather mill dam still furnish es skating for many 1'enllyn young peo ple and a little ice is cut therefrom year ly ' the large pond which formerly cover ed the tract near ambler station was famous all along the line and was a resort not only for ambler but for many skaters from the neighboring places keasbey it mattison company purchased this pond and drained it together with the cup of happiness for many skaters until other ponds and lakes were supplied on lindenwold fauns many times larger than the extent of the one drained in ambler the quarry hole now the cellars of the opera house building was resorted to by many when in search of ice since that time mr john kennedy has ex cavated a lake near fort washington and the old flue dam still remains but is little frequented by the skaters the old wittee dam at whiteniarsh has been allowed to go to ruin also until now it is only the usual flow of the wiesahickon creek that marks one of the largest dams that once backed up the waters of that famous stream of an irregularity in the ser vices held by the congregation styling themselves ms st mark's reformea church after nearly four years of prosperity and good healthy christian work during which time there appeared to be good work done there came n series of dis turbances and troubles to the little church which had il hoi been for the steadfastness of g few members would have entirely broken np anil destroyed this little institution it was with regret that nianv of us ex perienced this condition of affair anil it seemed that i here was no other des tiny for the church but to disband as the classes of the reformed church un der whose charge we were as a mission utterly disregarded us withdrawing their support and claiming as their rea son for so doing that there was not room here for a church they not having tak en into consideration the fact that we started with a membership of only about 35 and during the four years of prosper ity referred to above increased our mem bership to about mm notwithstanding this seeming prosper ity and increasing interest in the work we were unable to get assistance from our mother church to hold evangelistic services which are the life of any church and this fact together with certain dis agreements among some of the members so discouraged the workers and even the officers of the church that they decided it would he best to disband as a reform ed church as there were several of the members who had formerly been engaged in the methodist episcopal work before the or ganization of the reformed church here and many others who were also interest ed in the same it was decided to reor ganize under the above named denomi nation with this end in view a meet ing of those interested in the reorganiza tion was called for sunday jan 24th at which time i r s av thomas presiding elder of the n w district of the phila delphia conference was present and presided over the meeting after delivering to us a very interest ing sermon he proceeded to the business portion of the reorganization which was successfully accomplished and we were launched off into our new work under the title of the prospect villem.k.church we had our first services last sabbath at which time we had the largest attend ance that we have had for nearly two years having used the entire seating capacity in the evening service and it is in iw with great pleasure that we announce to our friends and the interested public that hereafter there will be regular sab bath services morning and evening to which services we would extend to all a cordial invitation to be probably the invasion of ice companies and the decline of the old count iv mills have done much to bring this about as the only revenue was that derived from the cutting of ice and the grinding of its present size extending nearly up to the large stone bridge and affording ex cellent skating for over one-quarter of a mile the large dam on he former pager property was also a famous skating place and a great deal of ice lias been cut there the nmskrats however are chiefly responsible for there being no water within the hanks now us they were always very troublesome at that place the dam back ponds and lakes were supplied on lindenwold fauns many times larger than the extent of the one drained in ambler the quarry hole now the cellars of the opera house building was resorted to by many when in search of ice since that time mr john kennedy has ex cavated a lake near fort washington and the old flue dam still remains but is little frequented by the skaters the old wittee dam at whiteniarsh has been allowed to go to ruin also until now it is only the usual flow of the wiesahickon creek that marks one of the largest dams that once backed up the waters of that famous stream
