the ambler gazette vol xv.-no 38 ambler pa atcil-st 2(j 185)7 a year a trolley ride llclltnrlul oh«prv«tlon from the top nf klppnrk hill mm nf till l.ntc jrniln c'ro«nln)t olllllrt jreat fjbpilltmmms t the writer one day lasi week made a trip over the trolley road from norris iown to collegeville a more delightful ride can hardly be had in montgomery covnty much bus been nid about the beautiful view to be bad from the top of skippack hill and it in all that is claim ed for it every town from perkasie to north wales can be plainly seen by the naked eye a distance averaging proba bly 12 miles the high imndpipe it lansdale stands nut in clear view amb ler lies to the south of gwynedd hills and in out of fight but chestnut hill can !«¦ seen plainly mi a clear day at collegevllle things are in a confuted state at present the authorities in the new borough arc striking out boldly in the line of public improvements be ginning on the main street the heading turnpike which runs through the entire length of the borough council pro poses to take a mighty stride forward and place the beautiful village in the very foremost rank of progressive burg.s along the perkiomen thin thorough fare which in the years before railroadh were known w8j one of the most fre quently traveled highways in the state has been excavated to the depth of two feet or more in order to permit the lay ing of the trolley tracks of the schuyl kill traction company the borough bears half the expense some 000 and the company the other half editor moser who is a member of council says the borough has a very fair contract when completed the street will be a model roadwav so they say at present the trolley tracks extend to within ho feet of the perkiomen railroad tracks on either side the heading com pany and the traction company came very near getting into serious difficul ties at that point a few days ago the trolley company wanted to cross the railroad tracks at grade but the railroad people blocked that movement by force of arms after a series of skirmishes the flag of truce was raised and both parties agreed to let the matter rest until the court decided who was legally riglu argument will be had in september a iewing the matter from this distance we are of the opinion that the trolley should not be allowed to cross the rail road company's tracks at grade there are too many grade crossings now and no additional ones should be allowed perhaps the two corporations could come to an agreement whereby the trolley watch tour corn uml rntntn arb yon keeping an eye m that lull stalk of corn bicycler at quaker town fot violating n borough ordinance in failing to provide a lamp for his wheel the judge riid the constable had laid himself open to indictment and that officers found guilty of such neglect of duty need not expect any mitigation of punishment this is a pointer for the constables of ambler and other boroughs and clearly indicates that they are in duty bound to we that borough ordinances requiring lights to be placed upon bicycles nre properly observed and duly enforced by arresting all those who fail to provide lumps for their wheels just how the fine is to be collected is not stated by the learned judge of bucks county but it is obvious that there must be a lefral mode of enforcing the penalty for a vio lation of the ordinance that reaches all classes and conditions of bicyclers or the court would not have regarded the neglect on the part of the officer as a serious breach of duty horsham farmers club wnicenhellpr history mlddlkbuiigh p aug 11 1807 to the readers of the ambi.kk gazettk it is my intention to gather informatioi concerning my ancestors my great grandfather i am told was peter vvngenseller born in montgomery county sept 24 1774 married susai longaker jan 7 1800 and died june 14 1835 peter and susan had 10 chil dren the father of peter avagenseller was john avagenseller who is said to have been born in germany in 1737 '. was married to margaret hornctter ho died at goshenhoppen montgomery county sept 29 1799 i am told that both john and margaret are bured in the lutheran cemetery at the trnppe in the face of the information that john men tlnk tuplrn dtflcitlmfi it.v i'rurtlrjil la wlllmv iirnvo i'nrlj llf mfli il to and margaret wagenseller both came ,• could tunnel the railroad from germanv comes the information tracks an overhead bridge is hardly i that among the names of 465 german practicable at that point lint let us what the court has to say about it we found bro moser of the inde pendent as affable and courteous as ever seated in his den on the second floor of the independent building he can watch every movement at the scene of hostilities at the grade crossing natur ally bro moser champions tlie cause of the trolley company and you may wager vour last penny the enemy will not find him napping the traction company proposes to ex tend its line as far as royersford in the near future but much depends on the decision of the court as to its right to cross the perkiomen tracks but cross or not the trolley will be operated through the borough nt an early day another important improvement is the building of the new public school house at a cost of 15,000 it is a fine brick structure located at a somewhat distant point from the centre of population of the borough it will be an up-to-date house in every respect as usual the moss-backs are kicking lively because of rapid strides in the line of progress but the authorities are going in for improve ment in spite of the croakers many dwelling houses are also going up and altogether collegeville is getting unto herself a great name it's a good thing bro moser push it along from collegeville we made a living trip to schwenksville where abideth bro bardman and his newsy schwenks ville item the circulation of the item whose first number was pulled off a washington hand press by the writer only a few years ago has grown so rap idly that a new and enlarged building has become a necessity the future home of the item is now being built on a lot adjoining the present publication house and a oozv little structure it will be — too small we believe tho proprietor will realise before many months the truth of this assertion will be all the more apparent whenbro bardman is confrontud with the editors of the 50 odd montgomery county nevspapen ut the housewarming on the event of the occupancy of the new building schwenksville has not yet mustered sufficient courage to adopt a borough charter many of her citizens have grown gray talking about it and the in dications are that there will be not a few funerals before the ideal is accomplished several handsome residences churches and school houses and other buildings have been erected in the village in the past deeade but with a concerted effort on the part of her citizens much more might be done to place the village in the foremost rank in point of population of the hamlets along the banks of the ivr kiomeii mi in tor destitute c'hlhln n one aim of the home missionary so ciety is to procure with reputable fam ilies homei for destitute children in addition to the 4,000 for whom prior to 1734 wa one stoffel wagenseifer who ownec 1c0 acres of land in hanover township at that time and up to 1784 what it now known as montgomery county was included in philadelphia county now the question arises was john wagenseller originally from germany if not who was his father doubtless there are among the readers of the gazette those who remember peter wagenseller where is he buried ? any information concerning the wagenseller or avagenseiler lineage will be gratefully accepted i trust some one will interest himself or herself sufficiently to answer kespectfully geo w waqknskxijbb fjbpilltmmms t the writer one day lasi week made a trip over the trolley road from norris iown to collegeville a more delightful ride can hardly be had in montgomery covnty much bus been nid about the beautiful view to be bad from the top of skippack hill and it in all that is claim ed for it every town from perkasie to north wales can be plainly seen by the naked eye a distance averaging proba bly 12 miles the high imndpipe it lansdale stands nut in clear view amb ler lies to the south of gwynedd hills and in out of fight but chestnut hill can !«¦ seen plainly mi a clear day at collegevllle things are in a confuted state at present the authorities in the new borough arc striking out boldly in the line of public improvements be ginning on the main street the heading turnpike which runs through the entire length of the borough council pro poses to take a mighty stride forward and place the beautiful village in the very foremost rank of progressive burg.s along the perkiomen thin thorough fare which in the years before railroadh were known w8j one of the most fre quently traveled highways in the state has been excavated to the depth of two feet or more in order to permit the lay ing of the trolley tracks of the schuyl kill traction company the borough bears half the expense some 000 and the company the other half editor moser who is a member of council says the borough has a very fair contract when completed the street will be a model roadwav so they say at present the trolley tracks extend to within ho feet of the perkiomen railroad tracks on either side the heading com pany and the traction company came very near getting into serious difficul ties at that point a few days ago the trolley company wanted to cross the railroad tracks at grade but the railroad people blocked that movement by force of arms after a series of skirmishes the flag of truce was raised and both parties agreed to let the matter rest until the court decided who was legally riglu argument will be had in september a iewing the matter from this distance we are of the opinion that the trolley should not be allowed to cross the rail road company's tracks at grade there are too many grade crossings now and no additional ones should be allowed perhaps the two corporations could come to an agreement whereby the trolley watch tour corn uml rntntn arb yon keeping an eye m refusing to arrest a bicycler at quaker town fot violating n borough ordinance in failing to provide a lamp for his wheel the judge riid the constable had laid himself open to indictment and that officers found guilty of such neglect of duty need not expect any mitigation of punishment this is a pointer for the constables of ambler and other boroughs and clearly indicates that they are in duty bound to we that borough ordinances requiring lights to be placed upon bicycles nre properly observed and duly enforced by arresting all those who fail to provide lumps for their wheels just how the fine is to be collected is not stated by the learned judge of bucks county but it is obvious that there must be a lefral mode of enforcing the penalty for a vio lation of the ordinance that reaches all classes and conditions of bicyclers or the court would not have regarded the neglect on the part of the officer as a serious breach of duty horsham farmers club wnicenhellpr history mlddlkbuiigh p aug 11 1807 to the readers of the ambi.kk gazettk it is my intention to gather informatioi concerning my ancestors my great grandfather i am told was peter vvngenseller born in montgomery county sept 24 1774 married susai longaker jan 7 1800 and died june 14 1835 peter and susan had 10 chil dren the father of peter avagenseller was john avagenseller who is said to have been born in germany in 1737 '. was married to margaret hornctter ho died at goshenhoppen montgomery county sept 29 1799 i am told that both john and margaret are bured in the lutheran cemetery at the trnppe in the face of the information that john men tlnk tuplrn dtflcitlmfi it.v i'rurtlrjil la wlllmv iirnvo i'nrlj llf mfli il to and margaret wagenseller both came ,• could tunnel the railroad from germanv comes the information tracks an overhead bridge is hardly i that among the names of 465 german practicable at that point lint let us what the court has to say about it we found bro moser of the inde pendent as affable and courteous as ever seated in his den on the second floor of the independent building he can watch every movement at the scene of hostilities at the grade crossing natur ally bro moser champions tlie cause of the trolley company and you may wager vour last penny the enemy will not find him napping the traction company proposes to ex tend its line as far as royersford in the near future but much depends on the decision of the court as to its right to cross the perkiomen tracks but cross or not the trolley will be operated through the borough nt an early day another important improvement is the building of the new public school house at a cost of 15,000 it is a fine brick structure located at a somewhat distant point from the centre of population of the borough it will be an up-to-date house in every respect as usual the moss-backs are kicking lively because of rapid strides in the line of progress but the authorities are going in for improve ment in spite of the croakers many dwelling houses are also going up and altogether collegeville is getting unto herself a great name it's a good thing bro moser push it along from collegeville we made a living trip to schwenksville where abideth bro bardman and his newsy schwenks ville item the circulation of the item whose first number was pulled off a washington hand press by the writer only a few years ago has grown so rap idly that a new and enlarged building has become a necessity the future home of the item is now being built on a lot adjoining the present publication house and a oozv little structure it will be — too small we believe tho proprietor will realise before many months the truth of this assertion will be all the more apparent whenbro bardman is confrontud with the editors of the 50 odd montgomery county nevspapen ut the housewarming on the event of the occupancy of the new building schwenksville has not yet mustered sufficient courage to adopt a borough charter many of her citizens have grown gray talking about it and the in dications are that there will be not a few funerals before the ideal is accomplished several handsome residences churches and school houses and other buildings have been erected in the village in the past deeade but with a concerted effort on the part of her citizens much more might be done to place the village in the foremost rank in point of population of the hamlets along the banks of the ivr kiomeii mi in tor destitute c'hlhln n one aim of the home missionary so ciety is to procure with reputable fam ilies homei for destitute children
