chancel a table in front of the pulpit was i'oad ed with fruit and cut flowers rev eiselen pastor occupied the pul pit in the morning and had selected his hymns in keeping with the anniversary day the first being come ye thank fui people come the text was taken from james i:17 kvery good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the father of lights with whom there is no variableness neither shadow of turning " mr eiselen said : the giving of the law in mount sinai introduced the first dis pensation of god the coming of christ in bethlehem introduced the sec ond dispensation the keynote of the old was law while grace is the primal note of the new the old dirpeiisation presented god as the ruler the king the creator the new presents him as father under the old men might ad dress god as the lord our father under the new it is our father the lord to the disciples this revelation was new and it was most natural that thev should apply the new term father to god in oriental countries the word father is used in the broa'l sense and was so used by the jews in ihe text . god is called the father of lights evi dently meaning the creator of lights whatever view we mav take of the creation an unbiased investigator must recognize the statement of the bible crediting god as the reator of all things as essentially true and there is no other explanation even in science the crown of creation is man when everything else had been created came man we look at man as a universe in himself mere mechanical man would re main in darkness but for god who im planted in him life and also a light that would enable him to see his relation to god and this light is that of the mind and thus god is the father of the mental light there is still another light man alone cannot penetrate the mysteries of life itself even here godi is the father light and has given us the light of the . soul we can riadily re gnizefhe imp r nce of tlu e when we conceive our lves denied tbea lights anl then we i i ie disappointed yes there is one who loo ruit ehangfl and the knowledge nnd promise of thll ih a most precious gift from god this is a day of thanksgiving to render gratitude to od for temporal things not forgetting the greater and more important gifts be grateful for them and express appreciation in word and deed kxperience is our best teach er he has been so good to supply onr very need surely this experience will increase our faith and trust in return for this as an expression of our grati tude we should be like him in giving fo others if we have received so freely it is an obligation to distribute the gifts if this harvest home will give you deep er recognition and gratitude and make von more like him in serving others t believe that it hns accomplished its end in the hand of the master the sahbath school rendered a special ly prepared program in the evening taking the place of the regular preach ing service superintendent e l posey was in charge of the exercises and the program entitled a basket of summer fruit was rendered very successfully besides the numerous recitations pruver readings and songs there was an address by the delegation of sellers # g among the good and perfect gift that come from the father in his version james desires to point his readers to the gefod gifts and also to inspire gratitude and appreciaton by calling attention to the fact that we owe these to god harvest home season is instituted to call to our mind the good things which god sends to us to inspire a feeling of thankfulness but while we think of the temporal blessings we believe it is proper to be reminded of some of the other good and perfect gifts bestowed as god is the father of lights so lie is the giver of everything that touches our lives we believe in a providence in theory at least that god cares for this universe and in its minu test details while we accept it in a general way in the individual gifts very often we fail to see the good and per fect in the insignificent and we do not recognize the hand of god every gift may be considered good if we allow the purpose of god to be worked out gifts may be divided into two class es first those which come without the asking second those which we make effort to obtain the first gifts are those which christ refers to when he says the sun shines on the evil and on the good and the rain descendeth on the iust and the unjust in this may be classed life mind health strength , rain sun in the second class are those gifts which come through effort and prayer but prayer is not always neces sarily expressed in words effort may be more of a true spiritual prayer than if put into words in the springtime a farmer might be very earnest in his de votion to god and read his bible dili gently and yet at harvest time have no thing to reap he must work and put forth proper effort in the spring and then at harvest god will bless and reward his efforts who supplies the fertile soil the wind the rain the sun who makes the grass to grow while the farmer sleeps who gives the increase who constituted man so he could labor take out sod's work and there would be no harvest the spiritual gifts are a blessing but some can be acquired onlv through an earnest effort on our part there can be no strong christian faith without a desperate effort on our part pardon and forgiveness are real spiritual gifts from god -\ soul burdened with sin can appreciate this gift new life re generation is a real gift from above it is the power over sin and this conns by the new life that fids ourselves of tfie power and attraction of sin the way to life and glory is tilled with tin sonars of rejoicing souls that have proved it is the gift of qod tin pow er of service is a real gift a true child hid id receives pardon and regenera tion and u poor child he would indeed be not to go about his father's bminei the duties of i child of qod aie gteat and we might despair if left alone but god will strengthen and uphold as be promises by tiio gilt of thu powei of the holy gliosi no variableness neither shadow " turning u a glorious promise look a nature how gbe changes townsend com panv in speaking fo a gazette repre sentative of the huge plant at hoopcs ton near fort washington for tho past few months work has been eon sent rated on these mills in the large steel building of the company the other mills in this building will be pushed along to completion as rapidly as possible and started turning out the pro duct work has been delayed jby the great strike and the inability of the contracting mill to turn out castings as rapidly m could be utilized in the con struction about 150 men will he required to operate the two mills to be started and work will be carried on night and dav the power is furnished within the same building by a large engine in order to supply these mills a large quantity of wrought and cast iron scrap will be re quired and the farmers hereabouts who have nny on hand will find a ready market at hoopeston for it almost since the conception of the plant in the first place scrap has been shipped here from the philadelphia bolt plant of the company but even at the rate of a car load a day having been accumulated there for several months past there is no likelihood that the enormous capacity of the mills will long be satisfied with the supply on hand tlie question of a sufficiency of labor is one that is a perplexing one to the company the primal idea of the pro moters was to build their own houses as required with the hope however that a syndicate of outside capital would take the matter up and relieve the company of this responsibility at least for the period of time thev were busy with the erection of their own plant a row of dwellings on the apartment plan has been erected which will accommodate at least 100 men while other and better buildings have been built on i'inetown road mr hoopes in his interview said it is a possibility that the company mav be compelled to erect another row of houses opposite the one already con structed lie also intimated that the i.toss country trolley projected from fox chase to nftrristown is being encouraged by his company because of the probable solution if prepenfr o the perplexing labor problem tli company is willing u have the tracks lajd over its own men might ad dress god as the lord our father under the new it is our father the lord to the disciples this revelation was new and it was most natural that thev should apply the new term father to god in oriental countries the word father is used in the broa'l sense and was so used by the jews in ihe text . god is called the father of lights evi dently meaning the creator of lights whatever view we mav take of the creation an unbiased investigator must recognize the statement of the bible crediting god as the reator of all things as essentially true and there is no other explanation even in science the crown of creation is man when everything else had been created came man we look at man as a universe in himself mere mechanical man would re main in darkness but for god who im planted in him life and also a light that would enable him to see his relation to god and this light is that of the mind and thus god is the father of the mental light there is still another light man alone cannot penetrate the mysteries of life itself even here godi is the father light and has given us the light of the . soul we can riadily re gnizefhe imp r nce of tlu e when we conceive our lves denied tbea lights anl then we i i ie disappointed yes there is one who loo ruit ehangfl and the knowledge nnd promise of thll ih a most precious gift from god this is a day of thanksgiving to render gratitude to od for temporal things not forgetting the greater and more important gifts be grateful for them and express appreciation in word and deed kxperience is our best teach er he has been so good to supply onr very need surely this experience will increase our faith and trust in return for this as an expression of our grati tude we should be like him in giving fo others if we have received so freely it is an obligation to distribute the gifts if this harvest home will give you deep er recognition and gratitude and make von more like him in serving others t believe that it hns accomplished its end in the hand of the master the sahbath school rendered a special ly prepared program in the evening taking the place of the regular preach ing service superintendent e l posey was delegation of sellers # g among the good and perfect gift that come from the father in his version james desires to point his readers to the gefod gifts and also to inspire gratitude and appreciaton by calling attention to the fact that we owe these to god harvest home season is instituted to call to our mind the good things which god sends to us to inspire a feeling of thankfulness but while we think of the temporal blessings we believe it is proper to be reminded of some of the other good and perfect gifts bestowed as god is the father of lights so lie is the giver of everything that touches our lives we believe in a providence in theory at least that god cares for this universe and in its minu test details while we accept it in a general way in the individual gifts very often we fail to see the good and per fect in the insignificent and we do not recognize the hand of god every gift may be considered good if we allow the purpose of god to be worked out gifts may be divided into two class es first those which come without the asking second those which we make effort to obtain the first gifts are those which christ refers to when he says the sun shines on the evil and on the good and the rain descendeth on the iust and the unjust in this may be classed life mind health strength , rain sun in the second class are those gifts which come through effort and prayer but prayer is not always neces sarily expressed in words effort may be more of a true spiritual prayer than if put into words in the springtime a farmer might be very earnest in his de votion to god and read his bible dili gently and yet at harvest time have no thing to reap he must work and put forth proper effort in the spring and then at harvest god will bless and reward his efforts who supplies the fertile soil the wind the rain the sun who makes the grass to grow while the farmer sleeps who gives the increase who constituted man so he could labor take out sod's work and there would be no harvest the spiritual gifts are a blessing but some can be acquired onlv through an earnest effort on our part there can be no strong christian faith without a desperate effort on our part pardon and forgiveness are real spiritual gifts from god -\ soul burdened with sin can appreciate this gift new life re generation is a real gift from above it is the power over sin and this conns by the new life that fids ourselves of tfie power and attraction of sin the way to life and glory is tilled with tin sonars of rejoicing souls that have proved it is the gift of qod tin pow er of service is a real gift a true child hid id receives pardon and regenera tion and u poor child he would indeed be not to go about his father's bminei the duties of i child of qod aie gteat and we might despair if
