president kose and all the member were present the minutes of auk 4 wpre rend and ap proved the linance committee reported hav ing approved the tax collector's bond mr.rtichfinnt chairman of the bnance committee reported us follows south main street under the ordinance uiant ed the lehigh volley traction company is to he macadamized 12 font leaving two feet additional the highway committee recommends this two ' feet to be completed l>y the boroujrh aeeordlm to the same specifications mid material as tins been used by the lchigh valley traction com pany and at same price of 86 cents per square yard the highway committee rcdom mends the opening of maple street from butler avenue north to connect with that portion which is now open also recommends the extension of main street ford street repaired satisfactorily to the property owners the streets in borough hn-ve tieen scnip ed by mr conway boardwalks on southern portion of tennis avenue are in a dangerous con dition the chairman of thehlghway committee notified property owuers to have name repaired at once but as yet there has teen nothing dona if the highway committee has any jurisdiction over this matter we would like council to instruct and the committee « ill have the work done with the usual penalty added the highway commit tee recommends the placing of a foot walk from rosemary aven no to spring garden street then on line of spring garden street to cooper's hotel by reason of the building of the new school house the residents of that portiou of the borough have no means for their children to get to the public school without going through the mud and wet greenwood avenue has been rolled with w 7 devine's steam roller an<1 is in a very satisfactory condition mr davib of the light committee reported the need of a light between jacob danehower's and the old frea9 store on main street another needed on euclid avenue at the properties of messrs shoemaker and jackson and also on poplar btreet all of which were later odered mr wahnsley of the tire committee reported that the steamer had not been tested because the members felt that council is not supporting the company as it should and the need of financial assistance prevents needed work on the property he urged that council prompt ly pass the regular appropriation and thus render assistance mr acuff of tftvlaw and order com mittee reported the order of the town good he presented a request from the borough officer for a leave of absence for the first 10 days in november mr camburn of the building permit committee reported neces sity of a boardwalk from the rosemary and orange avenue properties across to bulter avenue and the highway com mittee was instructed to lay a footwalk across rosemary avenue to spring gar den street and then to butler avenue ihe committee was also instructed to proceed with the work of securing bids on opening north main street and pre paring the approaches to the subway mr acutf said it had been brought to his attention that the subway had been constructed 10 feet outride the plans ac cepted bv council mr craft thought there should be no delay in the con htruction of the approaches on that ac count at a conference with the borough engineer could easily determine the er ror the matter of opening maple street to the northern borough line was en trusted to the highway committee with power to secure bids and to report at the next meeting mr rone reported that the keasbey mattison company has laid out a large reservoir along maple 6trcet and that they intend cutting a new channel through under maple street near the bridge but that this work will not in terfere with that of the borough the proposed ordinance for the open ing of park avenue from mattison to r rosemary and also that of opening rosemary avenue to north street were introduced and ordered to be advertised for the legal period to come up for linal passage on nov 10 in motion it was decided that when nothing except a pair of mrs koushton's glasses mr benton s russet's residence was entered bv prying open a side parlor window and the burglars were head trying to pick the bedroom locks they were frightened away by mr rusnell getting out of bed nothing was taken but the telephone wires were cut large haul at fort washington burglars sunday night or monday morning entered fred huffnagle's store at fort washington and also the post office room adjoining but succeedt-d in getting little for their tiouble entrance was effected throngh a window in the rear opening on morris road once in side the burglars worked in safety as the house is unoccupied the puttv was removed from the transom glass and through this the store was reached the safe upon tbe outside of which was displayed the combination was opened the drawer torn out and valua ble papers taken a few dollarc in change were taken and also about ifl in stamps from the store where things were scarcely disturbed the intruders broke open the transom into the postorlice a shelf full of lamps was removed and on this the parties climbed into uncle sam's apartments the oflicial racks of letter and paper boxes were climbed over and things therein were scattered about pretty generally postmistress leaf had just gotten 10,000 mckinley postal cards l'oo two-cent and io one cent packages of stamps and the boxes containing the cards were torn open and the contents scattered broadcast on the otlice hoor the money drawer was torn open and taken back on mr leaf's desk where it was searched but fortunately very little money was bnance committee reported us follows south main street under the ordinance uiant ed the lehigh volley traction company is to he macadamized 12 font leaving two feet additional the highway committee recommends this two ' feet to be completed l>y the boroujrh aeeordlm to the same specifications mid material as tins been used by the lchigh valley traction com pany and at same price of 86 cents per square yard the highway committee rcdom mends the opening of maple street from butler avenue north to connect with that portion which is now open also recommends the extension of main street ford street repaired satisfactorily to the property owners the streets in borough hn-ve tieen scnip ed by mr conway boardwalks on southern portion of tennis avenue are in a dangerous con dition the chairman of thehlghway committee notified property owuers to have name repaired at once but as yet there has teen nothing dona if the highway committee has any jurisdiction over this matter we would like council to instruct and the committee « ill have the work done with the usual penalty added the highway commit tee recommends the placing of a foot walk from rosemary aven no to spring garden street then on line of spring garden street to cooper's hotel by reason of the building of the new school house the residents of that portiou of the borough have no means for their children to get to the public school without going through the mud and wet greenwood avenue has been rolled with w 7 devine's steam roller an<1 is in a very satisfactory condition mr davib of the light committee reported the need of a light between jacob danehower's and the old frea9 store on main street another needed on euclid avenue at the properties of messrs shoemaker and jackson and also on poplar btreet all of which were later odered mr wahnsley of the tire committee reported that the steamer had not been tested because the members felt that council is not supporting the company as it should and the need of financial assistance prevents needed work on the property he urged that council prompt ly pass the regular appropriation and thus render assistance mr acuff of tftvlaw and order com mittee reported the order of the town good he presented a request from the borough officer for a leave of absence for the first 10 days in november mr camburn of the building permit committee reported having issued per mits to leidy fi heckler stable and two dwellings d w sperry school house j j dager stable the treasure reported a balance mi utrtautling bills . - „ ea had expir ed and that the borough officer was active in securing renewals £ the special committee to confer with the traction company relative to secur ing feoo to resurface butler avenue re ported there was nothing new since the labt meeting the report was accepted and committees discharged all the outstanding bills were then paid including the expenses of the elec tion officers at the special election amounting to 105 the light bill of 8608.75 and the water rent of 250 mr craft urged property owners to trim out trees along the htreets where the thick branches obstruct the street lights mr knight recommended the neces sity of a boardwalk from the rosemary and orange avenue properties across to bulter avenue and the highway com mittee was instructed to lay a footwalk across rosemary avenue to spring gar den street and then to butler avenue ihe committee was also instructed to proceed with the work of securing bids on opening north main street and pre paring the approaches to the subway mr acutf said it had been brought to his attention that the subway had been constructed 10 feet outride the plans ac cepted bv council mr craft thought there should be no delay in the con htruction of the approaches on that ac count at a conference with the borough engineer could easily determine the er ror the matter of opening maple street to the northern borough line was en trusted to the highway committee with power to secure bids and to report at the next meeting mr rone reported that the keasbey mattison company has laid out a large reservoir along maple 6trcet and that they intend cutting a new channel through under maple street near the bridge but that this work will not in terfere with that of the borough the proposed ordinance for the open ing of park avenue from mattison to r rosemary and also that of opening rosemary avenue to north street were introduced and ordered to be advertised for the legal period to come up for linal passage on nov 10 in motion it was decided that when council adjourns it adjourn to meet on oct 27 mr koulke reported on the damage sui f mr rudolph of north wales relative to injuries received from alleg ed defective boardwalks on euclid ave nue and haul her attorney mr jenkins had written claiming 100 damages mr foulke abked for inhtruction and was ordered to confer with mr jenkins and to nnike a compromise if uobsible do thu most favoittblc
