front carmen played by miss lftyilla rlesdorf on tho piano the scholars marched from the chapel to their assigned places in the church and there rendered with warm enthusiasm ami zest lie above exercise which was given without a brenk from beginning to end as an offertory miss rbasdorf gave mendelssohn's spring song as a piano solo mr lames lucas of ambler very ably assisted tjio school in the choruses by his cornet the pastor of tuc church rev e e valentine made a short address and the evening's program closed by th con gregation joining in singing all hail the power of jesus name the decorations of easter lilies and other flowers and plants were beautiful and very much in keeping with the day ambler presbyterian special easter services wore held in the ambler presbyterian church pre paratory services to the administration of holy communion on sunday morning were held by pastor brown during wednesday thursday and friday even ings and on sunday there were four applicants received into the church the service was beautifully appropriate to the occasion while the church and puplit were exquisitely bedecked with plants and flowers typical of the glad easter seasonjand of christian purity and probity the sabbath school ses sion in the afternoon was particularly large and after an interesting service the pupils were presented with easter eggs iu the evening the usual church service was omitted and the sabbath % hool under the direction of the superintendent mr h s cope rend ered it beautiful program entitled from calvary to olivet which com prised eongs typical of the glad tidings of the resurrection the infaut school under its superintendent mr william gracey.also gave interesting numbers while the pastor delivered and illustrat ed sermon appropriate to the church the apostolic creed is a part of our undoubted christian faith and is not regarded as a question of belief but as a matter of fact ho descended into hell is not a part of our creed or teachings wo say he descended into hades hell is a place of torment where sinners are punished as christ was sinless he could not have descended into hell but we believo that after his death upon the cross he descended into hades a place of sorrow anil gloom — from which he arose conqueror over death and the grave an invincible mediator between god and man on saturday afternoon preparatory services were held at which time several children were baptised services on easter suuday were begun with a dawn ser vice at 0 o'clock at which time excel lent vocal and instrumental music was an inspiring feature . dr bibighaus presided at tho organ the choir sang the anthem christ our passover mr j h dixon sang a solo entitled the new life the chancel was beautifully decorated with potted plants and easter lilies at 10.45 a m the regular morning service was held at which time the hoiy communion was partaken of by an exceptionally large congregation the pastor was assisted in administering the communion ea.ster services at ziou lutheran church whit niarsli were well attend ed the church being filled with mem bers and others who came to engage in the services the communion of the lord's supper was administered to a larger number of persons than for a longtime thechurch was appropriate ly decorated with palms and mowers the music was well rendered and in spiring two persons were received in to church membership the attendance the members and friends of the first m £. church ambler held special easter services sunday and were greet ed by large audiences the interior of t church was beautifully decorat ed with , jiiis ferns and easter lilies carrying out the color scheme of green and white in the morning the large chorus sang christ arose and fron out the tomb aud rev elviu/!the pastor preached a special sermon on the manifestation of the risen lord in the afternoon 18 scholars attended the sabbath school of whjch number 75 were in the primary department dr samuel sleath lead the singing and solos and recitations were also rendered misses marion and grace posey render ed a vocal duet rev elvin madean appropriate address the easter offer ing at this service was 13 in the evening miss posey sang the solo the insurrection songs and chornsas by the school were also sung and mrl v palumba rendered the holy city on the cornet kev elvin took fofe his text the life eternal and at ibe conclusion of the service sang all hail the p at the evening services was large the church being filled with an earnest aud attentive audience tho easter service rendered by tho sunday school was given in a spirited manner music and recitations were well rendered showing careful preparation and were much enjoyed by all present the at tendance at the sunday school on easter morning was the largest in its history on monday evening the annual easter social was held in the church and was well attended it being the time of receiving the lenten offerings which amounted to abcut jjyoo the evening was spent in engaging in a service of song followed by tho lifting of the easter offering amounting as above refreshments were afterwards served and all departed after having spent a very valentine pastor of the ambler baptist church under the direction of which corporation the three tuns school was founded was present and made an p appropriate address dwelling especial ly on the iciimi the summer residence occupied by the families of mr and mrs warner v george warner and isaac lippin cott at weldou a mite above glen side was the scene of an exoiting fire at 4.30 o'clock friday morning and the sleeping occupants of the house mr and mrs warner mr aud mrs lippincott and 11 children of the two families had narrow esoapes both families were sound asleep when uuu of the lippincotts was awukened by smoke he gave the alarm aud the 14 others in the house beat a quick retreat to the street in their night clothes escape was easy for all except those oil the top floor and dunso smoke made it difficult for those to get out in safety mr lip pineott attempted to descend a ladder but hit slipped and fell to the ground ho was but slightly injured tim weldon kiro company and was married 4 years ago to mr thomas who took tip their home at the old washington retreat which was also in the park later they moved to nicetown resid ing on germantown road after a time they removed to the old lamb tavern and then purchased the washington square hotel which they sold two years later and bought a farm near north wales here they made their home for many years and here mr thomas died 18 years ago six children were born to mr and mrs thomas and all survive as fol lows john of lansdale jesse and george of philadelphia frank of west philadelphia and susan emma wife of charles lentz of penllyn the deceased remained a very active and well preserved woman until about six months ago and had been confined to her bed since thanksgiving she came of a remarkable parentage large hallway running through the entire building and from which stairs lead to tlie collar and to the second story the entrance to this hall is distinctive the doorway being ornamented by an arch and
