o forces and faculties there appeared t be mi decided ohanm in his condition j thursday evening when the njjed man \ was lilt or tlic night ami lie did not complain of experiencing any symp toms other that those which had | characterised his case tot the seven ¦ days before however when the family wont into his mom friday morning they found the old man stretched oni in death there was apparent a bodily warmth indicating chat death had probably taken place about an hour before the end was peaceable and it is probable thnt he died without pain a stroke extinguishing the spark of lift as though it were but a candle flump ' deceased was the son of william mid susanna smith and was born nearly 85 years ago in lower gwynedd town ship on the road leading from kpring house to three tuns about tlirce ( quarters of a mile from the former , place he was one of four children elizabeth mary and salinda being the othftk.all of whom are now deceased the family lived on the farm which is now owned by o p fox for years and later kept the tollgate on the bethlehem turnpike at springhouse where the elder smith's death took place in 18<s;i the subject of this sketch on march 8 1848,married bar bara geyer daughter of jacob and susannah mover geyer formerly of sunineytown and lived on the farm just above spriiifjlunise now owned by itranois e bond esq here the mother alter the death of her hukband went to live.remaining until her deatli in 1874 charles smith and wife lived on the property i'or many years having ( me daughter susannah m , who was married to the late j m walter about 30 years ago when mrs william baker of cen tre square tliin county opened her front door wednesday to ascertain the cause of a eommotiou on the steps a mad don of the st bernard type sprang at her attempting to close the door again she was prevented by the dog becoming wedged in the at tempt to enter the house as she was struggling with the auimal to prevent being bitten some neighbors who had been giving chase to the rabid dog appeared upon the scene with clubs the dog was beaten from the baker door and pursued and in an attack on the baker family watch dog kllt eu taujued in a wire fence while thus
