The gallant crew soon r bedecked themselves in City splendor, (collars, coats, shoes, etc.), and embarked for the return home In the same company as going out. While at the feast, the suggestion was made and one minute speeches briefly discussed, of building a breast nearer the public road to enlarge dam No. 3,— >rder to husband enough water to!]' ofj Inj larry tbe oity over the dry spell ih summer. No action however was taken. During "the drive home, the hustling chairman, having with him Mr. Harpel and the Report man, outstripped his confreres, reaching the city at 7.10, an hour after leaving the dam. Mr. Harpel, who was a member of the borough council when the present supply was Introduced, exhibited Mr. Reinoehl a published copy of the original oontract between the borough and the contractors, throwing much Ught on the sub Jecl. Mr. Harpel made many suggest tions as to courses of investigation, of which the Fifth ward councilman will no doubt avail himself, It was also suggested that In the Iml mediate future, they visit the West stream, or No.3 and investigate It from the Source to an accessibly point fit for a dam.durlng the same trip visiting Hammer creek. Several mills are still engaged on large orders booked some time ago, but within tfae last ten days many new ones have been placed, and there ls now much inquiry reported. The Central plant was run the entire week, one of the plate mills starting on Tuesday, afiei suspension for repairs. The nail makers at the Cheepeake nail works were given the expected increase of ten i cent., affecting 200 men. The plant has been very busy of late. There was a'great Increase of orders at the Pennsylvania steel works last week, several large bridge contracts being secured, while shipments of steel slabs were heavy. New men are being added dally, and the summer prospects were never better than now. The weekly output of steel material was above the average. No. 2 blooming mill equalled Its record on the production of special steel blooms, running all week and making a heavy tonnage, mostly for shipment. The 20-inch train was on angles, and the slab mill! made large shipments to the rolling mills ln that city. The Bessemer mill was In operation all week un rails and speeial steels, making a good run.
