Abstract | This collection consists of histories, records, news clippings and visual materials connected to the Rittenhouse Square Flower Market. The Market founded by Mrs. George Gordon Meade Large debuted on May 20, 1914 and drew its inspiration from Mrs. Large's visit to the Paris Flower Market in the Place de la Madeleine. The Market was envisioned as a charity event and the 1914 event raised The first Flower Market $1,250 each for The Children's Hospital, the Hope Day Nursery, and the Rittenhouse Square Improvement Association. |
