included in th e list of a ttra c tio n s aimed a t b ringing
thousands of persons back to th e L ititz shopping area.
The L ititz Community Band will p re sen t band
concerts at th e S quare and from various points along
th e business section F rid a y evening from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. and S a tu rd ay from 1 to 4 p.m.
Special m u s ic ,. including amplification and The
S ta r Du sters which has made a big h it w ith local
teen-agers, w ill continue th ro u g h o u t th e evening S a turd
ay , w ith dancing continuing from 9 p.m. u n til
eleven.
The firs t block ' of East Main S tre e t w ill be
. blocked off for th e c e leb ratio n from 1 p.m. S a tu rd ay
u n til eleven o’clock w ith stores rem a in in g open u n til
then.
The c e leb ratio n is being p lan n ed b y re ta ile rs w ith
th e Chamber of Commerce and th e two local banks
d e fray in g costs of th e b an d and broadcasts by WGSA,
E p h ra ta radio station.
Stands w ill be e rected in th e firs t block on th e
stre e t by th e Lititz Recreatio n Center, fe a tu rin g soft
drinks, an d sandwiches; th e Society of F a rm Women,
who will offer Moravian sugar-cake, home-made, of
course, doughnuts and coffee; th e Ambulance Group,
h an d lin g subs, h ot dogs, cider and p um p k in pie; and
th e L ititz P a re n t Teachers Association, who will condu
ct a n o v e lty stand.
The Ju n io r Cham b er of Commerce w ill sponsor
p o n y rides as we ll as rid es in th e motorized go-carts,
m in ia tu re ra cers, S a tu rd a y afternoon, w ith th e celeb
ra tio n d u rin g th is perio d tak in g on th e aspects of
m in ia tu re fa rm show.

By Retailers During Celebration
Much of th e in te re st in th e two-day celebration
centers a ro u n d th e aw a rd in g of an automobile filled
w ith merchandise to some lucky shopper. The automobile
w ill be d riv en ab o u t th e borough F rid a y and
S a tu rd ay , amplifying music and making announcements.

stores o u tsid e th e Main S tre e t are a b u t who a re jo in ing

also have gone a ll out in p re sen tin g a two-day b a rg ain
fe stiv a l such as local shoppers n ev e r before witnessed.
They are, lite ra lly , expressing th e ir joy a t h aving
s tre e t conditions h e re re tu rn e d to n o rm a l b u t slashing
prices to th e v e ry bone -— rig h t when folks ev e ry w
h e re a re sta rtin g to con c en tra te on th e ir Christmas
shopping ideas.
The two-day sale begins F rid ay m o rn in g a t 9 a.m.
and will continue th ro u g h o u t F rid ay and S a tu rd ay u n til
11 p.m. An indication of th e ty p e of money-saving
b argains being offered w ill b e seen by examining th e
announc ements c a rried by th e m e rch an ts in th is issue
of The Record-Express.
The automobile w ill be given aw ay a t 11 p.m. w ith
th e d raw in g scheduled to continue u n til a tic k e t is
d raw n and th e person id en tified . The shopper m u st be
p re sen t to win th e ca r unless it rains. In th a t case
th e firs t card d raw n w ill be d ec la red th e w in n e r and
n o tified by phone. In case of ra in , th e dancing will
be tra n s fe rre d from th e s tre e t to th e Borough Elementa
ry School gymnasium.
Many of th e re ta ile rs also will be giving away a
larg e n um b e r of v a lu ab le prizes and gifts. These
d rawings will be made in th e stores ju s t before th e
tick ets are collected, w ith these winning tick e ts th en
being re tu rn e d to th e boxes so th a t they, too, can be
in competition for th e automobile.
Many of th e stores also a re p lan n in g u n u su a l
su rp rise s for th e ir customers. One example of this is
a larg e cake of ice, in which a re a n um b e r of packs
of sausage, which w ill be placed in fro n t of D o ste r’s
jVIarket. An en tire W in te r’s supply of sausage w ill be
aw a rd ed th e persons most n e a rly guessing th e time
th e cake will have completely melted.
