The king personally announced this decision to D. It. King Edward told Mr. Francis that he had been prompted to take this step by his keen appreciation of the affection and respect in which the Americun people always held his mother and as a token of his Intimate sympathy With American interests. His majesty said that he thought nothing probably would be more appreciated by the American and Canadian visitors to the St. Louis exposition than this nutlohal memento of Queen Victoria's reign.,, 42 North main Mtrmmt, WNext to Eagle Hotel. At the meeting with the mayor the labor committee declared that If contracts for West Virginia or Maryland coal shall be awarded, the teamsters will refuse to deliver it, and a general tleup In Chicago will result. This statement Ib believed to be the forerunner of a confession from the prisoner that he killed his Arst and second wives, both of whom died mysteriously. His first, wife died suddenly about eleven years ago, and he soon married the second, whose body was found in the canal in Cincinnati in 1804. Although the police authorities were unwilling to discuss the subject, it was learned that telegrams were sent to Washington warning the officials there of the danger foreshadowed by the unexpected arrest of a self confessed anarchist. Before Mr. Roosevelt left the White House unusual care had been taken for providing P6r his safe Journey to this city despite the fact that he always has shown indifference to danger and even has gone to the length more than once of condemning as useless the precautions taken to Insure his safety.
