History of His Company. Vienna, Jan. 5.—The leading Austrian weekly, the Sonnund Montags Zeltung, today predicts vast changes In International politics. Count LamsdorfT, the Russian foreign minister, the paper asserts, didn't come to Austria to discuss the situation In Macedonia, but rather to negotiate for the destruction of the triple alliance. Continuing, the paper says: "Germany having estranged both her allies by her new tariff bill, now seeks to become a third party to the Anglo-Japanese alliance. Russia was, therefore, compelled to seek other support to restore the balance of power necessary. This support will come from Austria and Italy. The International situation In the near future will be as follows: Germany isolated in Europe, but with Great Britain and Japan in the background. Russia, France, Austria and Italy will form a quadruple alliance. These changes will result In American predominance, and the United States will hold the balance of power between the two combinations." Philadelphia, Jan. 5.—The answer of G. B. Markle & Co., independent coal qperators, to the demands of the miners has been submitted to the anthracite strike commission, now in session In this city. It was written by John Markle, managing partner of the firm. The statement Is in part as follows: Washington, Jan. 5.—Any hour may bring the news from Venezuela, it Is believed here, that President Castro has been forced out of office. JEWELER, 3G W. MARKET STREET. The state department has received a cable from Minister Bowen, the language of which was not divulged, but the purport of which was to a great extent confirmatory of the cable from Curacao, published yesterday, which showed that a serious crisis had been reached In Castro's tenure of office. Minister Bowen reports a dangerous condition of affairs iu Caracas especially. The chapter of Indian orders was one of the most brilliant functions following the durbar. It was attended by Lord and Lady Curzon, the Duke and Duchess of Connauglit and scores of native princes. Among the brilliant assemblage were nearly 300 members of the Order of the Star of India and many maharajahs. "The present Item was formed on Dec. 30. 1880, for the purpose of mining coal upon lands held by the firm under lease from the Union Improvement company for thirty years from Jan. 1, 1800, and from the Highland Coal company for thirty years from Jan. 1, 1892. Louisville, Ky„ Jan. 5.- A relative of former Minister Godfrey Hunter of Guntcmulu litis received n letter from Samuel Castleman, formerly of Chi-, cago, but who is now in Guatemala, stating that Godfrey Hunter, Jr., wllb killed W. H. Fitzgerald in Guatemala City, had been threatened with assassination prior to the killing if he refused to leave the country. According to Mr. Castleman, thirty-six witnesses nt the investigation of the shooting by the Guatemalan government swore tliut six men had formed a conspiracy to shoot Hunter. None of these men, the letter states, is now In Guatemala City, while two are no longer In the republic. Mr. Castleman further states that the shots which killed I'ltzgerald were tired in self defense. He also says that Secretary of Legation Bailey had been threatened by the alleged conspirators. Conspiracy to Shoot Hunter, The state department has no information bearing on recent military operations, but Is prepared to learn at any moment that Matos has carried the revolution to success and that Castro is either a prisoner or in flight. "Iu the early part of 1808 my wife employed at her own expense a trained nurse to look after the sick, and later, when this nurse retired, another nurse from St. Luke's hospital In Bethlehem took her place, who Introduced the system of district nurs{ng in the borough of Jeddo and in the neighboring villages.YOU GET THE BEST AT WILLIAMS and M'ANULTY Five Syndicate* After Loan, Buhamara, the pretender, having claimed the intention of enthroning Mulal-Mohammed, his rebellion has no longer any reason to continue, ns the sultan has publicly reconciled himself with bis brother and Mulal-Mohammed has made a solemn entry Into Fez, acclaimed by the populace. The sultan has announced the appointment of Mulai-Mobammed as governor of the province of Fez, thus disproving the rumors that Mulal-Mohammed aspired to the throne. A NOVEL SUGGESTION, Various propositions have been made by syndicates to the Venezuelan nui thorltles looking to a funding of the nutional debt. No less than live syndicates are now desirous of floating a Venezuelan loan, and the only guarantee they now ask Is that Castro shall retire from the presidency and leave the country. The purpose is to refute the repeated declarations made abroad that American locomotives are good enough of their kind, but that they are more expensive and that they consume more coal and oil than those of foreign make. ART SQUARES, Oil Cloths and Linoleums, Wall Paper, Paints and Oils. Paintars and Paperhangars. "By the terms of the cool leases G. B. Markle & Co. are required to pay all the taxes upon the property. The taxes paid by the coal operators constitute the largest portion of the taxes collected in the county." Ono of these syndicates Is represented by the Sellgmaus, another by the International Banking corporation, and there are three other groups of capitalists that are desirous of assuming the Venezuelan debt. Each group, however, insists as u condition precedent to taking over the Indebtedness ftiut Castro shall retire. When this had been done, according to the official authority for these statements, the tribes around Fez swore fidelity to the sultan and denounced Buhamara as an impostor whom they would prevent from coming to Fez. (7\ruri/'$ PRICES. Continuing, the answer says a sliding scale busls of labor bad been agreed upon In 1870 and had from that time been generally in force in the Lehigh region. In September, 1807, a committee of miners presented certain demands to the firm. An agreement was then in existence between the company and men to settle differences by arbitration. The company replied to the demands and received no further communication from the miners. Work ut the mines continued uninterrupted until the latter part of 1900, when John Mitchell mude his headquarters at Hazleton and endeavored to organize the Markle employees. Sliding Scale of Waves, TALES OF CITIES. Philadelphia has two former postmasters general doing business on the same street and feels pretty confident that no other American city has. Secretary Hay declined to make known the identity of these syndicates. They have all applied to this government to put them In touch with the Venezuelan government, but the state department has refused to act as an intermediary or even as an introducer. This government seeks to hold aloof from all negotiations of that sort, particularly those which have to do with puying the foreign claims. All immediate danger has disappeared. The routes from Vcz to the coast are open. It is said the sultan is now preparing a large expedition with the intention of crushing the rebellion. PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENTS. Best Pat. For WEDDINGS CIaimam ! For FUNERALS nUWWS I The secret of the renewed strength of the revolutionists, whose forces are now approaching Caracas from three directions, is the fact that the aggressive powei-B feel that the success of their demands depends on Castro's downfall. B. Best Pat.
