The amendment .fixing u three dollar, head tax on each immigrant coming into the United States furnished the principal topic for debat(j. It was adopted without division. An amendment also was agreed to exempting from the tax aliens in transit through the United States and aliens once admitted and who have paid the tax. The dispatch also said that the records and bualness of both legations were turned over to the American legation. At the Cabinet meeting this morning, the Venetuelan question was one of the principal matters discussed. Hands of the American Legation. Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 9.—Two men were killed outright, three others fatally injured and seven painfully hurt by a delayed explosion of a blast at Bakers hill, thirteen miles north of here, on the Evanpville And St. Louis division of the Louisville and Nashville railroad. The victims are Italians and were at work in a cut which was being constructed by the Ijouisville and Nashville road. Workmen employed by William Gode, who has a subcontract on the tunnel, were lowering a big timber twenty-five feet long from the street to the bottom of the tunnel, when the wind, which swept Broadway like a hurricane, made the log veer around as the ear camc rapidly along. A panic among the hundred employees of the firms occupying the building was created at the first alarm of fire, and many had narrow escapes. Menominee Falls', Wis., Dec. 9.— Three persons are dead and six Injured as a result of a fire at Colgate, five miles from here, In which the general store and dwelliug of Max Manthey were destroyed. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The new Union Steel company organized at Pittsburg is to have a capital of $75,000,000. Frosen to Death. Big Timber, Mont., Dec. 0.—One fatality has been reported as a result of the cold wave which swept over this section of the state. The victim was nu engineer named English. His frozen body was found near the Cooles mining camp, bwhere he had been employed. Reports from various sections of the state tell of rapidly falling temperatures.
