The German gunboat Panther, arrived here Sept. 5 and received instructions from the German government to capture the Flrminlst gunboat Crete-a-rierrot. She left immediately for Gonaives, the scat of the Flrmlnlst government.VISIT "Politics?" he queried. "Why, I have never mixed In politics of any sort. My politics consists of the Declaration of Independence and the Golden Bule. The civil government in the Philippines has had difficulties to contend with, but they are now gradually disappearing. I believe civil government to be a success in the islands, and I believe the work done by the Philippine commission in making laws suitable to the conditions and In organizing provincial government will stand as a 'monument to an honest and able administration. The better classes of the natives—the educated classes—appreciate the difficulties and approve of the efforts made by the commission." In his pocket was a hastily scrawled letter showing signs of a tottering mind, but confessing the two murders. No motive was stated, but it is believed that he had cast Minnie Mitchell aside for another woman. The sole clew to the latter's identity is a letter from Chicago to Bartholin here. It was addressed to "George Edwards," by which Bartholin was known here, but the fetter within began "My Dearest Will." The Tanther found the Crete-a-rierrot in the' harbor of Gonaives, and the commander of the German gunboat informed Admiral KilUck, on the Cretea-Pierrot, that he must remove Ills crew and surrender Ills vessel In five minutes' time. During the afternoon there were several hundred pleasure seekers on the island, and of that number fully 150 were within a radius of 200 yards of the fort. All were covered with dirt and other debris, and many were thrown to the ground by the terrific concussion, and that all of them were not killed Is considered almost miraculous.Window Shades Made to Ordor. 60 NORTH MAIN.
