Gates, and the rumor spread rapidly that Morgan & Co., who are believed to hold 150,000 shares, bought at about 130, have agreed to take over the Gates' syndicate holdings of 200,000 shares for 150. at Atlantic City. The storm had been so great that all telephone lines were blown down, cutting off communication with Caroline Beach, a summer resort. The uprooted trees and the debris piled along the road made It Impracticable to attempt to carry relief by land, and a special boat was sent to Caroline Beach at 4 o'clock in the morning carrying medical aid, nurses and supplies. New York, Aug. 8.—Concerning the attack made on Attorney General Knox by three wealthy Pennsylvanlans in an Atlantic City hotel (a report of which is printed on the second page of today's Gazette), Mr, Knox made the following statement in this city today: "It was at the Garden hotel. I went there with four. lady friends. Who they were makes no difference. While we were* dining, three men came in and sat at a nearby table. One of the men I recognized as Charles T. Schoen, of Pittsburg. The otherE were unknown to me. The three became so noisy and used such rough and insulting language that I decided to escort my friends from the dining room. Afterward I returned, walked to the table where the three men sat and reproved them severely' for their talk. Gates, and the rumor spread rapidly that Morgan & Co., who are believed to hold 150,000 shares, bought at about 130, have agreed to take over the Gates' syndicate holdings of 200,000 shares for 150. at Atlantic City. The storm had been so great that all telephone lines were blown down, cutting off communication with Caroline Beach, a summer resort. The uprooted trees and the debris piled along the road made It Impracticable to attempt to carry relief by land, and a special boat was sent to Caroline Beach at 4 o'clock in the morning carrying medical aid, nurses and supplies.
