It is doubtful If the announcement will be made today, as the negotiations, it Is understood, have* not yet been completed. The interest of the public in the negotiations was shown today. While It was announced that the ministers would meet some time during the day, the exact hour set for the meeting was kept secret, and at an early hour In the morning a great crowd of people collected In Downing street. Lord Chamberlain arrived at tl.30 and was almost Immediately followed by the other ministers. Philadelphia, May 27.—Wm. Indianapolis, May 27.—John Mitchell, president of the United Mine Workers of America, is expected here Wednesday morning to issue n formal call for a national convention ot the organization In the near future to discuss the strike situation. The formal demand for the convention, to which five districts have agreed, bus not yet reached national headquarters. New York, May 27.—With perseverance characteristic of Presbyterians, and especially of western Presbyterians, the California men won In the contest for the privilege of entertaining the general assembly next year. It was a spirited contest between Ohio and California, as Cleveland and Angeles were the competitors. Los Angeles had given a pledge in writing that It would entertain the commissioners and the officers of the assembly free. Cleveland had not given a pledge, but one of Its elders, whose name has Jieen attached to many a cheek for religions, educational and philanthropic institutions, said, with a childlike simplicity, that he would put his pocketbook into the hands of the stated clerk as an evidence of good faith In the statement that Cleveland would do whatever the assembly expected her to do.
