The miners were represented In the conference by National President Mitchell and District Presidents Fahey, Nicholls and Duffy. The fact that the anthracite magnates did respond to the Invitation to participate in a conference today is regarded as a big victory l'or the Federation. The meeting was opened at 10.30. Senator Hanna presided. Messrs. Thomas, Baer, Truesdale and Olyphant were called on to state the operators' side of the case. Guyer shot and killed W. E. Searles, a prominent jeweler of the town. Searles went to the postofllce window and called for stamps. When Guyer came to the window. Searles drew a revolver and tired a shot at Guyer, but missed. Guyer then fired at Searles. The bullet took effect In the abdomen and the victim died within a few minutes. Guyer shot and killed W. E. Searles, a prominent jeweler of the town. Searles went to the postofllce window and called for stamps. When Guyer came to the window. Searles drew a revolver and tired a shot at Guyer, but missed. Guyer then fired at Searles. The bullet took effect In the abdomen and the victim died within a few minutes.
