Dec. 20.—This city suffered another very serious explosion today, and the complete results will not be known for some time. At least live are dead. The explosion occurred at 4.15 o'clock In the boiler room of the 10-Inch bar mill of the Park Bros, iron works, on Thirteenth street. Four large boilers were wrecked, and the force of the explosion caused great destruction. The mill is a complete wreck, the debris being piled from 50 to 76 feet high. As soon as possible, the .police and firemen, aided by the employes of the wrecked mill who escaped death or injury in the explosion, began the work of rescuing the victims. At this writing five dead bodies have been taken out of the ruins. All were frightfully crushed and burned, some of them being unrecognizable. Twelve men injured more or less seriously have also been rescued and taken to various hospitals in the city. B is feared that some of them will not survive their Injuries. The work of. rescue is proceeding, and it is feared that other dead bodies will be found in the debris. The boiler works of the Mc- Neill company, which adjoined the jFarU Bros.' mills, was also badly wrecked by the explosion, but no loss of life occurred In the McNeill plant. Eight colored deck hands, Who were on the upper and lower decks when the accident occurred, went over thu dam with the vessel and were drowned. All of the others on board the boat escaped. "Ten" Martin, one of the passengers, died of fright shortly after being taken from the boat. The bill temporarily to provide revenue for the Philippine Islands, which was passed by the house of representatives Wednesday, was referred to tlie committee on the Philippines. Prices of lake copper were cut a cent a pound, to 13 cents, while similar reductions were made in the quotations of electrolytic and casting. . Tlio dividend for the fourth quarter was reduced from per cent, the regular amount, to 1 per cent. Up to September last stockholders received Hi per cent a quarter, with .in extra dividend of a half per cent, making 2 per cent in all, or at t,Ue rate of 8 per cent a year. The dividend declared yesterday is at the rate of 4 per cent a year, or Just one-half the amount of Its former disbursement.-!. Morse had acquired another bank, which he purposes to add to his system of national and state banks, ills latest acquisition, it is stated, is the Fourteenth Street bank, at 3 East Fourteenth street. It Is a state bank, having a capital of $100,000 and a surplus of $50,000. Its deposits are considerably over !?1.300,000. Mr. Morse lately acquired the holdings of President Warner Van Xorden of the National Bank of North America, by which transaction the control of that bank passed into his hands. Dec. 20.—This city suffered another very serious explosion today, and the complete results will not be known for some time. At least live are dead. The explosion occurred at 4.15 o'clock In the boiler room of the 10-Inch bar mill of the Park Bros, iron works, on Thirteenth street. Four large boilers were wrecked, and the force of the explosion caused great destruction. The mill is a complete wreck, the debris being piled from 50 to 76 feet high. As soon as possible, the .police and firemen, aided by the employes of the wrecked mill who escaped death or injury in the explosion, began the work of rescuing the victims. At this writing five dead bodies have been taken out of the ruins. All were frightfully crushed and burned, some of them being unrecognizable. Twelve men injured more or less seriously have also been rescued and taken to various hospitals in the city. B is feared that some of them will not survive their Injuries. The work of. rescue is proceeding, and it is feared that other dead bodies will be found in the debris. The boiler works of the Mc- Neill company, which adjoined the jFarU Bros.' mills, was also badly wrecked by the explosion, but no loss of life occurred In the McNeill plant.
