Captain Ferlan reports that on Nov. 7 when his vessel was about 1,000 miles nil the United States coast, n large vessel was discovered sending flames hundreds of feet into the air. As soon as the Are was noticed, the Etalka's course was changed, in order to get nearer the vessel, but as she approached a terrific explosion occurred, hurling the burning ship in all directions. It was Impossible to Identify the vessel. The report has created considerable excitement In marine circles. There are no means of determining whether the lost vessel was a liner or an oil carrier. The list of overdue vessels is now being investigated. They say that Rathbun will go nowhere except to Jeffersonvllle, where he is to be tried on the charge of murdering by poison Charles Goodman. A telegram was sent to Little Rock asking that the corpse be returned to Jeffersonvllle. The war secretary declared also that neither Sir Evelyn Wood nor the Duke of Connauglit was to be regarded as a peace general, because wherever their army corps weut they also would go. lie further announced that Sir Archibald Hunter would be appointed to the command of another army corps when this was formed. Flgbllns In Laion, Utlea, N. Y., Nov. 14.—A disgraceful scene was enacted In the chamber of the Oneida county board of supervisors. Mob rule reigned, and bloodnlied was narrowly averted. The trouble was precipitated by an attempt of a certain element in the board to Juggle with the method ordinarily employed iu filling the several offices at the disposal ol the members. Iu the melee the super visors rushed at the clerk of the board, pinning him against the wall and using him with great violence. The services of several policemen were necessary to restore order. Not.-. 14.—A plot to kill Patrolman Oaparelll, truant officer, was foiled by tie arrest and confession of nine small boys here. They say that James Knolls, 21 years old, trained them to steal and formed a murder conspiracy so they could be freed from school and have more tlmp to steal. This action is a result of the fight that occurred Monday night betwoen Jim my Handler and "Young Peter Jackson," which was stopped in the eighteenth round by the police. Baer, president or the Philadelphia and Reading and Jersey Central railroads, was married this afternoon to Frank Leavlnworth Connard, mechanical engineer, of this city. A reception followed the ceremony at "Hawthorne," the Baer mansion. Guthrie, Okla.,' Nov. 14.—A pitched battle was fought between deputy sheriffs and citizens on oiie side and a band of outlaws on the other near Plokee, a village of Kay county. The officers state that the outlaws are some of the escaped prisoners from Leavsflworth, Kan. The battle was the result of an attempt made by the outlaw*, who were masked, to steal several horses in that neighborhood. Several of the combatants are reported to be wounded.
