The men returned on the same lDasls they worked before the sympathetic strike was inaugurated. The men did not organize, although they met with Federation of Labor men a number of times. The men were not molested, as their return was a surprise to the strike leaders. The tube works' officers are jubilant over the break in the seamless tube depart meat and 'the outcome of the parade at Diujuesno. Famous Army Officer Succumbs Washington. Aug. 31. One Grand and Glorious Holiday, TUESDAY, O SEPTEMBER m9 Kalispell, Mont., Aug. 31.—A very serious railroad accident is reported from Mack's Station, forty miles east ot here in the mountains. An eastbound freight train backed out of a switch at Essex and broke in two on a heavy grade. Twenty-eight cars dash ed down the mountain at a terrific rate of speed and crashed without a moments warning into a passenger train. The special car of Assistant (General Superintendent Downs, of the Great Northern Railroad, and a car occupied by laborers were demolished and burned. Superintendent Downs and his son were instantly killed. Many laborers were killed and burned. A sleeping car also caught lire and was burned, but it is believed that all of the passengers escaped front the car. It is reported that altogether seventeen persons were killed and »..at. many others were injured.
