He wired for help, and Governor Candler at once ordered a company of militia to be sent here to assist the special deputies the sheriff had sworn in. Washington, June 8.—As a result of the cabinet meeting, in which the Cuban delegates who recently visited this country were accused of a breach of faith if not actual duplicity in connection with the Piatt amendment, a virtual ultimatum, it is understood, was ordered sent to the island. In it the Cubans are told that the United States will not permit the establishment of an Independent government in Cuba uutll the Piatt amendment Is adopted without any qualifications. New York, June 8.—The Independence incident, so far as the New York Yacht club is concerned, is closed, and unless Thomas W. Two tragedies have put Jones and Rutledge beyond the reach of the law. Commodore Ledyurd said plainly that there seemed to be a settled purpose on Mr. Lawson's part to misunderstand the position of the committee and that as further discussion can serve no purpose the committee declines to discuss the subject further.
