Coykcndall, president of the Ulster and Delaware Railroad company, has sold to New York, Ontario and Western Interest# that portion of the abandoned Delaware and Hudson canal which extends from Summltvllle to Kingston. It is understood that the Ontario and Western company will use the old canal In part for the Hllenvllle and Kingston road, which is now under construction. It was this old canal bed that was to have been used for the right of way for the independent coal road, the Delaware Valley and Kingston, which project was abandoned when the Erie railroad purchased the Pennsylvania Coal company. The present cabinet situation affords a new Illustration of the promlneuce of Mr. Root in the White House councils. Although' Mr. Knox Is notnlnally the president's legal adviser, Mr. Root Is to render an opinion on the Insular decisions, and It Is quite within bounds to say that at least as much attention will be paid by the president to Mr. Root's opinion as will be paid to Mr. Knox's. It was this old canal bed that was to have been used for the right of way for the independent coal road, the Delaware Valley and Kingston, which project was abandoned when the Erie railroad purchased the Pennsylvania Coal company. Washington, June 4.—Prior to opening for settlement this summer the lands in Oklahoma now forming part of the Kiowa, Commanche and Apache reservations, about 1,000 white squatters, or "Sooners," will be driven off by United States troops. His parents have received a letter from Brisbane saying that he is 111 and desires to come home. Whether he was abducted or ran away from home is not known, but it is believed he was kidnaped for a reward.
