Near the ujiper or Nevada Fall rises tho loftiest peak about the Valley, called the Cap of Liberty, from its close resemblance in shape to this ancient emblem of our nationality, and also known as Mt. Broileriek. It is a lolty rock of granite rising 4,GOO feet above the valley, smooth as a helmet, and yet quite accessible. The view from its sublimit of the whole region which it overtops is said to be magnificent, and I should have made tho expidition if I had had another day to devote to it. The ascent can be made with ease in a day, in connection with a visit to the Vernal and Nevada Falls, by taking an early start jn the morning and omitting for the day the visit to Mirror Lake, but no one who has not strong powers of endurance should undertake it. Anna Dickinson accomplished the feat shortly before our visit to the Valley, but she is something more than siuipl v strong-minded; and even she, in returning, was overtaken by nivht before she reached the ladders at the Falls, and made the rest of the return trip in the dark. After the "service at the grave" a negro man took hold of the colli n to hand it down into the grave, but, to his astonishment, he could not move it. MANUFACTURER OF Nov. 11. 18G9-tf A strange story is current among the colored people, and is exciting some of them quite too much tor their happiness. It is as follows: Sometime ago (not lone, however; a child died, and its body was duly coffined and taken to the burying ground. There it was deposited alongside df the newly-opened grave. After the "service at the grave" a negro man took hold of the colli n to hand it down into the grave, but, to his astonishment, he could not move it. He called to his assistance another stout fellow, and the two tried but failed to budge the coffin. Two more cams to their help, and the tour had no morn power over it than they would over a mountain of granite. The coffin clung tight to ttie ground, as if glued. This astonishing state of ffairs called for an explanation, and it was determined to open the coffin and see what was inside of it. It was done, and behold the child was alive. Further examinations developed the fact that there was printed on the bottom of its feet these words : ' There has been no preacher in Heaven for eleven hundred years."
