I)E3 Moines, la., Nov. 6.—The elections in this state yesterday wore for governor, lieutenant governor, judjo of supreme court, superintendent of public instruction and railroad commissioner. The vote in this state will be compared with the vote for governor in 1887, when Larrabee (Rep.) had 109,686, Anderson (Dem.) 153,526 and Cain (M. L.) 14,499. Thirty precincts in Iowa show a net Democratic gain of 212. Nearly every part of the state heard from continues to show Democratic gains, which in some precincts amount to a landslide. The city of Burlington gives 1,500 Democratic majority, and Des Moines county will raise it to 2,000, a clean gain of 800 over the vote of two years ago. Majority. J. J. Mahone, the defeated candidate for the governorship, has been arrested for shooting at and fatally wounding a man named Herbert Harrison. Harrison is a young Democrat who has been a fierce partisan of McKinney, the victor In the fight for governor. Harrison was standing on the steps of the court hoose at 10 o'clock last evening, when it was pretty well understood that Mahone had been defeated. Not knowing that Mahone waa standing close behind him, he made use of some abusive terms with regard to the defeated ex-senator. -- OHIO IS PROBABLY DEMOCRATIC, Harrisburq, Nov, 8.—State treasurer was the only officer voted for in this Btate yesterday. Later returns show the election of the entire Democratic state ticket by a majority probably exceeding 10,000. Boies, for governor, seems slightly ahead of the balance of the ticket. Pottawatomie county reports a Democratic majority of 1,500, a gain of 700; Carroll, a Poughkeepsie city, oomplete, gives Rice 1,867 and Gilbert 2,250. Wemple runs about 20 votes behind his ticket. P. W. MCKINNEY. gain of 587. The returns from surrounding counties and from southwest Virginia indicates Mahone's overwhelming defeat. Richmond gives Mo- Kin ney and balance of Democratic ticket .5,472 majority, twice as large as ever given before. The returns from other parts of the state up to 11 p. m. indicate Democratic majorities of not less than 25,000 majority. The Republicans' concede it by 15,000. Up to this hour the Democrats have gained eight members of the legislature. The estimate is that tho Democrats will have a twothirds majority in each house. In Henrico county, which heretofore has been Republican, Davis (Dem.) is conceded elected to the legislature by Republicans. Large Democratic gains in the black belt, Halifax county, heretofore Republican, gives Democratic majoritv. Returns from nearly the entire state indicate Mahone's defeat by from 15,000 to 20,000 majority. Governor Lee has sent the following dispatch to ex-President Cleveland: "Virginia has buried Mahone by probably 80,000 majority."Alexandria City gives 467 majority for McKinney, a Democratic gain of 825. Clarke county gives 850 majority for McKinney, a Democratic gain of 150. Democratic majority of 700, a gain of 50( Scott and Du buq In Buffalo seventy-six election districts out of ninety-nine in the city gives a Republican majority of 2,298 on the head of the state ticket. For assembly, Sheehan (Dem.) is elected in the First, Andrews (Rep.) in the Third, Ganther (Dem.) in the Fourth and Currier (Rep.) in the Fifth. The Second is in doubt, with chances favoring Endres (Dem.). For senator, Laughlia (Rep.) is undoubtedly elected. The Democrats have elected their candidate for mayor by a big majority. All the other Republican city candidates are probably elected. Eighty-two districts in the city gives the head of the Republican state ticket 2,065 majority. Mahone, who is a very small man with a long gray beard, rushed up to Harrison, a broad shouldered young Herculea, and, shaking his fist in his faoe, poured forth a volume of vile epithets. Harrison was so startled by the sight of the extraordinary and excited little figure that he drew back for an instant Some people say that he put his hand to his hip pocket as if to draw his revolver. Others deny that he did so. It is asserted that Gen. Mahone drew his revolver and fired at Harrison full in the face. Mahone Fires In Bis Faee. Boyer's plurality will probably exceed C10,000. Philadelphia county gives Boyer 38,000 majority. Returns from fifty-seven of the sixty-seven counties of the state, including Philadelphia and Alleghany counties, give Boyer (Rep.), for state treasurer, 63,115 plurality over Bigler (Dem.). Philadelphia county gives Boyer 41,080 plurality, against 14,353 for Hart" (Rep.) for state treasurer in 1887. Boyer's plurality in the state will be about 00.000. J., Nov 6.—The latest avaiD- ' le figures here give Abbett, Dem., 10,000 uajortty. 6,000. Democratic HORACE BOIES. Rome, complete, gives Rice 1,639 and Gilbert 1,276. A number of Harrison's friends seised bold of the infuriated little general and prevented him emptying another cartridge into the prostrate form of the young Democrat. It was found that the bullet had entered Harrison's jaw, and had taken an upward oourse toward the brain. Harrison is unconscious, and is not expected to live till morning. The bullet has not yet been found. state committee say thay are sure Boies is elected by a small majority. It is impossible to make an estimate on reports received. It is Bafe to say Republicans elect railroad commissioner and judges. Nothing as yet received on legislative ticket in any district. In Glens Falls Scott Barton (Rep.) has been elected assemblyman. The Democrats concede that the county has gone Republican on the state ticket by 700 majority. Iowa 10,000 Democratic. Dea Moines, 6.—Later returns give the State to the Democrats by 10,000 majority. The Democrats claim the state by from 7,000 to 10,000. Chairman Pray, of the Republican central state committee, does not give it up, but will give no figures. The state register claims that the last 100 precincts heard from have shown exceptional Democratic gains and that tfiat the others to come will not keep it up, but that the back precincts will show Republican gains enough to wipe out the Democratic gains. Many Republican leaders have given it up and gone home. The indications point very strongly to the election of Boies (Dem.), In the Nineteenth district Emerson (Rep.) has been elected senator. Scbeffer (Rep.) is elected to the assembly in the Second district by 250 majority. The estimated majority for Gilbert in the county is 1,000. Another Story of the Atlhlr. There was the greatest excitement among the Democrats of this oity last evening over their victory. A party of young men went to Gen. Mahone's house and fired off a lot of rockets. Gen. Mahone ordered them off. They continued their jollification, when suddenly a pistoi shot was heard and one of the young Democrats, Herbert Harrison, fell. He had been struck by a ball in the thigh. The legislature, as indicated by the returns up to 11:30, will be largely Democratic. Davidson (Dem.) for mayor of Baltimore is elected by probably 8,500 plurality. Herr Brandeis, the German official who is believed to tie responsible for much of the trouble in Bamou, has been appointed to a high diplomatic position in New Guinea. Richmond, Va., Nov. 6.—Michael Fall, a young Democrat, and Phil Lambert, a Republican, engaged in an altercation over politics, and Lambert, after being badly beaten, got a shotgun and fired at Fall, wounding him. The latter died soon after the shooting. Then there are about 200 garments, nicely made, for ages from 4 to 12 years at from $1.95 "to $5.00, which is about one-half of the actual value. Rockingham county gives 700 Democratic majority. The indications are that Lewis county elects a Republican member of assembly by 800 majority. The county will give a large majority for the Republican state and senatorial candidates. John Drisooll, a Democratic ticket holder, knocked down a fusion ticket holder named Apple and kicked him to death. The quarrel was not political, but the result of animosity between the two men on other grounds. ' Of the legislators, the Democrats elect twelve and the Fusionists six. The Democrats in Oswego county made a gain of 400 over the vote of 1887. George B. Sloan (Rep.), for senator, will have about 2,500 majority in Oswego county, and in the district his majority will be about 4,000. Wemple ran about even with Rice. The Republicans elect their entire county ticket. The Republicans gain, six legislators, but the Democrats will have both houses by an immense majority. Democratic State Ticket. Jackson, Nov. 6.—The elections in this state yesterday were for a governor and other state officers, members of the legislature and county officers. The election was uneventful except in a few counties where local differences existed, and where two tickets were in the field. Washington, Nov. 6.—Last evening a colored man named Osborne Vasey, and another, name unknown, ware quarreling, when Vasey shot the unknown man, who died in a few momenta. Vasey, though wounded, tried to escape, but was pursued by Offioer Ricken. Vasey fired on the offlcor, shooting him through the breast and killing him instantly. In Henrico county, which heretofore has been Republican, Davis (Dem.) is conceded elected to the legislature by Republicans. Washington, Nov. 6.—Last evening a colored man named Osborne Vasey, and another, name unknown, ware quarreling, when Vasey shot the unknown man, who died in a few momenta. L, Nov. 6.—The creditors of the Riverside and Oswego Mills company ire freely signing the agreement for extension and settlement recently submitted by the assignee, and there is no doubt that the proposition will be indorsed by nine-tenths of the creditors. The mills will be kept running, and the thousands of operatives will receive their full pay regularly. Providence, Nov. 6.—A prominent member of the International Maritime conference, Capt. A. M. Brisbee, representing the empire of China, is just now occupying public attention here as plaintiff in an amusing divorce suit. Capt. Brisbee is a native of Cape Cod, where his wife, Flora, lives. For ten years past he has been in the service of the Celestial emperor. A little over a year ago he came home on leave of absence and alleges that his spouse celebrated his by pulling his beard, scalding ljim with the tea kettle and knocking him down several times with a stove poker. He has, therefore, entered suit by counsel in the supreme court for absolute divorce. It is Understood that there is another side to the story. Friends of his wife allege that he attempted to run his home and family on an Oriental plan that was incompatible with the dignity of an Atuerioan housewife, and she took, heroic measures to persuade him to return to Nineteenth century ways The suit promises to be lively and entertaining.
