Business Men of the City Hold Pittsburg, June 14.—Yesterday was St; Anthony's day, sacred to the memory of the Portuguese saint, who lived nearly seven hundred years ago. He is the patron sainl of the old German church on the summit of Troy hill, of which Rev. S. J. Mollinger is pastor. It is widely believed that on St Anthony's day Father Mollinger performs miracles of healing, and thousands of the sick and deformed resort to him. About sii thousand persons crowded in and around the church during the forenoon. Men and women carried bottles in which they secured watei blessed by the priest. Johnstown, Pa., June 14.—The remnant of citizens interested in Johnstown's future assembled again in mass meeting. This time Gen. Hastings took the initiative in the matter himself and called on the business mqn to meet with him at his headquartel's. Gen. Halting* called the meeting to order and said: Drummers representing all branches of business are here in droves making arrangements to get their former customers started in bubintss again. Nobody who is anxious to get started in business again will have any difficulty in getting a stock of goods and all the time they want in which to pay for them. Droves of Drummers. Albany, June 14.—State Senator Thomas F. Grady, of New York, La* been retained to defend Moroney and McDonald against extradition. The papers of the governor of Illinois asking for the surrender of the two men arrested in New York city for complicity in the.Cronin murderWere presented to Governor Hill yesterday before Mr. Grady arrived. Tlie governor denied the application, without prejudice to a renewal of it, upon the grounds: (1) That the application was not accompanied by an indictment; (2) that no proof whatever was presented showing that the accused are guilty of the crime charged against them, as required by the laws of this and all other states. The application was based solely upon an affidavit made upon "infoimatiou and belief." A. Atkinson, premier, Wellington, New Zealand, and his honor Mayor Galloway, of Brisbane, Australia. He assured his listeners that there was no necessity for any one now in the valley to feel hunger or to go shelterless, as the organization for supplies, clothing, etc., is as near perfect as is possible, and if any one suffers from any cause it is their own fault. The general urged the necessity of their reorganizing their muuicipal government, the meeting of the city council, and appointment of a police force for the protection of private interests, that the military guard cannot undertake. "I want you to go about your daily avocations as you did formerly." The speaker again invited them to make their wants known, saying that he would call upon certain parties to furnish building material to erect structures suitable for the transaction of business. "Pittsburg merchants are anxious to provide "you with stocks to set you up in business again, And there are gentlemen in this audience who have come here lor the purpose of taking you by the hand and saying to you that if their aid is desired they are willing to trust you and wait on you until this charity can take some tangible shape. In England a drunken mother came borne one da; and demanded of her little toy his new boots, that she might pawn or sell them and get more gin. Washington, June 14.— Assistant Secre* iary Bussey has directed that Albert A Barnes be granted a pension for rheumatism. The case was rejected by the pension office for lack of evidence, but Mr. Bussey considers the evidence sufficient to warrant a pern sion for Barnes. In the case of John P. Car* lin, who claims a pension for catarrh, as the result of a broken nose by being thrown from the cars while on individual furlough, Assistant Secretary Bussey holds that the soldier was not in line of duty, and affirms the action of the pension office in rejecting Carlin1! claim for pension. Another telegram from the general manager of the Lion Fire Insurance company, of London, of the 0th inst, expreSfeed a desire on behalf of the directors therefore to contribute $1,000 to the relief fund of the sufferers by the flood. The president, through Mr. Blaine, accepted this voluntary donation on behalf of the stricken sufferers, and requested the manager to deliver the money to the United States minister at London to be forwarded here. Buffalo, June 14.—Rev. Father Cronin, editor of The Catholic Union, denounces the Clan-na-Gael and the murderers of Dr. Cronin. He warns Irishmen against the order, and says it is on the road to destination. The poor, helpless woman, with eyeless tickets, when taken into court ac a witness, gave reluctant testimony to the husband's cruelty, but he was convicted and is now serving out a sentence of twenty-seven yearfl at Sing Sing. This man Washington, Juno 14.—The secretary of the navy has issued a general order that all metal covered ships of the navy shall be painted white. HD retofore they have been painted black. By this innovation the United Statts will simply follow the example of other powers. It has been demonstrated that white vessels are several degrees cooler than those painted in darker colors. J. moroney. was William Mertes, a milk dealer, who saw a white hi rse and buggy drive up to the Carlson cottage about 9 o'clock 'on the night of the murder and who, a few minutes afterward, heard loud voicos and sounds of scuffling inside the cottage. All of the allegations conveyed in the publication and many more discrediting Rossa were proven by the testimony, whivh included a letter written by Henry Labouchero convicting Rossa of intimacy with Briti?h spies and informer-. By the testimony of Patrick Ford, Cassidy, Richard Short, the man who stabbed Capt. Phelan, and others, it was proved that Rossa had defaulted in almost every instance of his being the custodian of funds raised or intrusted to him for sjjecific objects. Johnstown, Pa., June 14.—The remnant of citizens interested in Johnstown's future assembled again in mass meeting. This time Gen. Hastings took the initiative in the matter himself and called on the business mqn to meet with him at his headquartel's. Gen. Halting* called the meeting to order and said: Drummers representing all branches of business are here in droves making arrangements to get their former customers started in bubintss again. The papers of the governor of Illinois asking for the surrender of the two men arrested in New York city for complicity in the.Cronin murderWere presented to Governor Hill yesterday before Mr. Grady arrived. Tlie governor denied the application, without prejudice to a renewal of it, upon the grounds: (1) That the application was not accompanied by an indictment; (2) that no proof whatever was presented showing that the accused are guilty of the crime charged against them, as required by the laws of this and all other states. The speaker again invited them to make their wants known, saying that he would call upon certain parties to furnish building material to erect structures suitable for the transaction of business. "Pittsburg merchants are anxious to provide "you with stocks to set you up in business again, And there are gentlemen in this audience who have come here lor the purpose of taking you by the hand and saying to you that if their aid is desired they are willing to trust you and wait on you until this charity can take some tangible shape. Washington, June 14.— Assistant Secre* iary Bussey has directed that Albert A Barnes be granted a pension for rheumatism. The case was rejected by the pension office for lack of evidence, but Mr. Bussey considers the evidence sufficient to warrant a pern sion for Barnes. In the case of John P. Car* lin, who claims a pension for catarrh, as the result of a broken nose by being thrown from the cars while on individual furlough, Assistant Secretary Bussey holds that the soldier was not in line of duty, and affirms the action of the pension office in rejecting Carlin1! claim for pension. All of the allegations conveyed in the publication and many more discrediting Rossa were proven by the testimony, whivh included a letter written by Henry Labouchero convicting Rossa of intimacy with Briti?h spies and informer-. Phelan, and others, it was proved that Rossa had defaulted in almost every instance of his being the custodian of funds raised or intrusted to him for sjjecific objects. Trenton, June 14.—Attorney General Stockton, in accordance with a request of the board of inspectors of the state prison, rendered an opinion on the constitutionality of the "Martin parole" or ticket of leave law passed last winter, uuder which it has been found that 200 prisoners convicted of high crimes can be released on proving a citizenship of three years in the state.
