The ifslgnee, William Nelson Cromwell, has tie confidence of the street. He said yesterday: "The assignment has not the usual slgnifl oauce of such affairs. It will simply act S» an adjustment, the assignee receiving die aid of a powerful syndic*tp which fafcs already taken active steps to reorganize and protect the creditors. The assignee Wtw selected by the combined interests, railway oompaalea, syndicate and large creditors. The end expected is the re-establishment of Ires and Co., and the extrication of the railway companies from thair present complications: We expect that all claims except those of the railway companies will be paid in fall." The current acoount of how the Arm of Ives tc Co. got into the debt of the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad company to the extent of #7,000,000 Is as follows: They secured controling interests, and their hanking house was declared the New York agent of the road. When the preferred stock was issued it was sent to Ives & Co. to place. Instead of distributing it, they bought it In themselves, as Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton agents. They gave in payment a check certified by Ives & Co. This check was daposited with Ives A Co. as bankers forthe road. The ifslgnee, William Nelson Cromwell, has tie confidence of the street. He said yesterday: "The assignment has not the usual slgnifl oauce of such affairs. It will simply act S» an adjustment, the assignee receiving die aid of a powerful syndic*tp which fafcs already taken active steps to reorganize and protect the creditors. The assignee Wtw selected by the combined interests, railway oompaalea, syndicate and large creditors. The end expected is the re-establishment of Ires and Co., and the extrication of the railway companies from thair present complications: We expect that all claims except those of the railway companies will be paid in fall." The current acoount of how the Arm of Ives tc Co. got into the debt of the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad company to the extent of #7,000,000 Is as follows: They secured controling interests, and their hanking house was declared the New York agent of the road. When the preferred stock was issued it was sent to Ives & Co. to place. Instead of distributing it, they bought it In themselves, as Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton agents. They gave in payment a check certified by Ives & Co. This check was daposited with Ives A Co. as bankers forthe road.
