"The shocking occurrences called kerosene lamp explosions, still continue to be reported in all parts of the country. Fire persons hare been killed and six wounded by an explosion at Winesburg, Ohio. A little girl aged eleven, and two other children, wereD dreadfully burned by another, at Norwich, Conn.; a child at Chelsea, Mass., seriously injured, etc.. etc.— These are not accidents; they are Mterdert. No accident o f a serious nature can resnlt from the use of true kerosene oil, which will stand the fire test of 110°. The wicked men who are engaged in manufacturing dangerous naphtha mixtures deserve the severest punishment. Let us drive these men to the wall; let as expose the frauds, and thus prevent a vast amount of 'human suffering. Disseminate far and - wide the information regarding keroeea* presented in former number* of the Journal. Consumers should test the kerosene they purchase. We will add a word to former direction* given,— Take a common quart bowl; fill it one-third full of boiling water; now add cold water, a little at a time, until a thermometer placed in it indicates a temperature of 110° T. A tablespoonful of the oil to be tested nay te turned into the water, and stirred about with the thermometer. It will float on top, and i may be touched with a lighted match or bit ot paper. A country clergyman in Kent was paralysed by apoplexy in 1761, and struck by lightning about a year after, when all of the -paralyeis left him.
