It is claimed tlmt Mr. Overton was named as Bradford's candidate only and purely out of compliment to their distinguished citizen and that it was the intention and purposo of the Republican county convention to aid in the nomination of C. C. Jadwin. 'J'hero aro prominent Republicans hero from each county in the district, and it is thought that Mr. Jadwin inay be induced to run independent of the action of the late conference. Assurances have been given by leading Democrats that if Mr. Jadwin would run tliero would lie no Democratic opposition from Wayne county, and that the voto would bo so large on tUo Democratic side of the house that Jadwin would bo elected, 110 matter what Mr. Overton's Republican vote might be. It is claimed by Towanda Republicans that Mr. Jadwin would poll a larger Republican voto in Bradford county than Mr Overton ,.ould. New York city, is in town endeavoring to induce a patent invention of his for forcing oil from oil wells where tho gas lias been exhausted. llis invention consists of an air condenser, from which an inch pipo passes through tho tubing and terminates in the pocket below tho sand-rock in an inverted perforated jot, through which tho pressure of airis expected to force the oil up through the tubing as was formerly done by the natural gas. An experiment was mado at an old well on Barbon street, this city, this afternoon, which terminated disastrously. Ho has very little hope, however, of his aged relative being ablo to rally from the depressing effect of tho severe chills ho has roeently suffered. Mr. Weed is now ablo to take only the most meagro amount of nourishment, and is growing perceptibly weaker every day. His physician, Dr. Chadbourne, fears that ho may sink through sheer inanition and exhaustion, and is, therefore, using every means possiblo to induce the patient to eat as much as he can.
