McCarty were procoodod against by F. M. Morely, Lewis Fitting and W. H. Palmer, of this county, who charged them With having obtained money under falso pretences. Tho Mahoning Company issued a circular in 1881, giving the number of members in the class known as the "old people's class." Tho prosecutors in this case visited Sclinsgrove to verify tho correctness of the list, and being informed by Ilummell, the sectary, that tho statement represented the facts they insured a man in the company. In a short time, after they had paid about five hundred dollars, their "subject" died and they proceeded to collcct tho money supposed to be duo them. They wore informed that thev owed the company $34. An examination of th6* books showed that there were only half as many members in the class as represented in tho circular.
