A Brave Man.—fn a Shropshire mine, not long ago, an accidcnt occured which occnsioncd very general sorrow. Three men, who were working without the usual precautions, wero struck down by a mass of earth and stone. Their fellow-workingmen rushed up. to them, and in tho first instance turned to the man who sectnod most to need help. He was lying beneath a huge fragment of rock. "No," he e.iid, go to those other men first." They hesitated. "Go to those mon first,I say; I am 'doggie' (foreman') of this pit: you must do as I tell jrou. Go! The two men were liberated and ultimately recoverc'l. The lacerated " doggie" was with difficulty raised to the bank. The surgeon prepared to do what he could, and tied up the femoral artery which was severed, but it was too late. Suddenly chango came over the countcnence of tho wounded man.
