HANK, "The sun was about to rise, when the log which I was upon washed up against the bank not far from where the Ohio empties into the Mississippi. I caught hold of some bushes, and pulled the log up alongside of the bank, unloosed my rifle, and got out. I had been ill the water so long that 1 was mighty weak and 1 was shrivele'd up, but ss 1 began to stir about 1 felt belter, and setting off 1 went back up the river to where I started upon the log. The first thing 1 seed upon gettin back' wa* old Jupe sitting on the bank waiting for me, at the very spot where the log slipped off. The thing wanted to lick me all over, she was so glad to see me. How A Quaker Collected A Debt. Near the close of the last century, a Quaker knight of the shears ana thimble, who exercised his avocation iu Philadelphia, was imposed upon by an adroit scoundrel, who contrived to get a suit ol clothes on credit, and afterwards eloped without paying for them. The Quaker was too poor to lose the debt, but.jike loa many'olhers of his "cloth," he had apparently no alternative. The account was placed on his book and soon forgotten. Some years afterwards, he was examining his old records of d«bt and credit, profit and loss, when his attention was attracted by this account, and the circumstance attending it came fresh to his mind. How A Quaker Collected A Debt.
