Conflicting Reports About the Kniaz Potemkine. Driven Through Streets of Pittsburg. Named for High Office of Miss Clara M. Wells, of Beaver Falls, (laughter of Charles R Wells, general manager of the National Lead & Oil Co. of Pennsylvania, was killed on Wednesday evening, and her father was seriously injured. The young woman was driving her father to their country home when the horse became fractious and both were thrown over an embankment. Miss Weils alighted on her head and was killed instantly, her neck being broken. The father was rendered unconscious and was badly cut about the head, but his injuries are not dangerous. France Turns Over His Re- The Scranton polite are forced to admit that Wiley Starkey, the admlrer of May WoodIItig. who, with Mrs. Jay, was found murdered In her bed last Saturday, has made out a good alibi. He worked In the Taylor yard of the Lackawanna company on the day of the crime, and at night did not leave his boarding house. Starkey probably will be discharged, and the case seems more mysterious than ever. Frank Pardee, of Hazleton, and Miss Alice Ross were married In Plainfield, N. J., on Wednesday. Mr. Pardee Is the well known Independent eoal operator who has charge of the Cranberry and Orystnl Ridge collieries, owned by A. Pardee & Co. His bride came to Hazleton from Brooklyn several years ago and had charge of a kindergarten school conducted under the auspices of Miss Killth Pardee and other prominent ladles of tbe city. Miss Ross was the companion of Miss Pardee and accompanied the latter on a trip to Europe In the spring. The engagement of Mr. Pardee to Miss Ross was announced last autumn.
