Several sets of resolutions were adopted. President Alexander made a brief speech. Vice President Hyde followed him and in the course of his remarks referred to the sale by Second Vice President Tarbell of the latter's interest in the renewal account to the company, which brought forth a sharp retort from Mr. Tarbell. "It is inconceivable that Mr. Alexander should have denied that he shared equally with Mr. Hyde in all the syndicate operations thai were conducted under the name of 'J. H. Hyde and associates.' The checks were drawn to his order on the Mercantile Trust and Equitable Trust companies, signed This was about the substance of the conversation In which Chapman participated at Newcastle. This is the story brought to Secretary l.oeb by Elmer Chapman, a courier who was chosen to bear messages between the president and the temporary seat of government at the Hotel Colorado in this city. She identified Hoch at the county Jail as the man who married her in Germany In 1875 and twice deserted her. The woman says Hoch's real name is Karl von Palo. "Come here, Karl," said Mrs. von Palo, in German. "You are my husband; come here." "Isn't that enough?" lie replied The day's sessions were replete with developments. Mr. Hoover in a letter to a friend In Pittston writes: West Palm Beach, Fla., April 19.— Joseph Jefferson's condition remains unchanged except that he is gradually growing weaker.
