Every indication points to a far more widespread system of operations than has so far tyeen disclosed, and by nil who are interesting themselves iii the strange case it is acknowledged that only a beginning has yet been made iu unravelling a mystery which may open the doors of prison to several persons whose names have not been publicly mentioned in connection with the Chadwick case. A genuine surprise w'as given to Leliigh Valley railroad men today, when annonncement was made of changes in a number of important positions in the operating department. Reports show that General Nogi is battering to pieces what is left of the Russian fleet bottled In the harbor by Admiral Togo. The general's furious bombardment of the port, particularly since his capture of Two Hundred and Three Meter hill, has driven the Russian admiral to an extremity. Fires were started in several of the ships, and one of them, a battleship of the Poltava type, burned fiercely for more than an hour, the enormous column of black smoke rising front her serving as a guide to the Japanese gunners on Etse and Antze mountains, who cooperated with the cannonading from Two Hundred and Three Meter hill. An ambitious woman gets wind of some rival's intended function. Not to be invited or not to be seen among the guests means a slight easily endured if the world be not cognizant of the fact, but intolerant if it is; therefore the ambitious woman sails away to .vurope. She may not be gone six w wits, but her absence is thus to be accounted for. In other cases it Is known that society takes this absent treatment to cure heart troubles, to escape social obligations lhat weigh too heavily on the income or, again, from sheer ennui it departs.
