'A man of large affairs in one of our prominent eastern cities, by too close attention to business, too little exercise and too many clu,b dinners, finally began to pay nature's tax,' levied in the form of chronic stomach trouble; the failure of his digestion brought about a nervous irritability, making it impossible to .apply himself to his daily business, and finally deranging the kidneys and heart. Every department Is crowded with the latest and most desirable for present and future use, and the prices—well, a little lower than usual. The following special offerings ought to interest thirffltiy buyers. DRESS GOODS What seems to have been a high handed action by a justice of the peace was perpetrated last evening in Duryea, \|hen Squire Frank Savage summarily caused the arrest of two prominent West Pittston men, who were interested in a. case in his office last evening. The men were William R. jones and Evan Jones the former of Exeter street, who were prosecuting some people that had been trespassing on their properties In Duryea, stealing fruit and destroying fruit trees. The hearing was held last evening before Squire Savage and both of the prosecutors were present It seemed to them that the justice in his rulings was partial to the defendants, who were countrymen of his and they remonstrated with him The squire, it is said, became very angry at what he termed their interference and said summarily that they were under arrest for contempt of court. Both men were almost speechless at the action and before they recovered themselves the squire ordered a constable named Paul Urban to take them to jaii and lock them up. Before going they offered! to give bail before him or to pay their fines, but he would not hear of it and they, were placed in cells. After a few hours, it is alleged, Savage came to the jail and offered to release them if they should pay $3.50 each. They refused at first, but later, in the presence of witnesses, paid the money protest and were allowed to go. William R. Jones engaged attorney W. H. Gillespie this morning and warrants will be issued this afternoon for the arrest of Savage and Urban, charging them with criminal extortion. They will be given a hearing about 5 o'clock this evening before Squire Gilboy. Evan Jones has not started any prosecutions as yet. TEN RRNE WORKERS Evans, Supt. H. G. Davis, Mine In* spector P. M. Boyle and Supt. Thomas, of the Susquehanna Coal Co., held-1 a conference and planned an investigation. Arrangements were made -within a short time to lower a bucket into the shaft and search for the men or their bodies. 52 inch High Lustre Brllliantlne, black, navy, brawn, good value at 75c; spe-clal price 50c a yard. In his own words he says: "I con suited one physician after another and each one seemed to understand my- case, but all the same they each failed to bring about th© return of my former digestion, appetite and vigor. For two years I went from pillar to post, from one sanitarium to another, I gave up smoking, I quit cof- Ifee and even ,renounced my daily glass or two of beer, but without any marked improvement. "Friends had often advised me to try a well known proprietary medicine, Stuarfs Dyspepsia Tablets, and I had often perused the newspaper advertisements of the remedy, but never took any stock in advertised medicines nor could believe a fiftycent patent medicine would touch my caseD It was thought that by this means it could be ascertained within a few hours whether any of the men were alive and some of the bodies recovered if they had not fallen into the water and sunk to the bottom. CHILDREN'S COATS At one- fourth less than real value. Are you thinking of buying a child's coat. Work of Rescue, In the meantime the work of rescue was pushed. Charles Swartz, the footman at the Ross vein, risked his life by climbing down the shaft toward the, water and calling to determine if any were alive. There was no sign in answer to his calls, no rapping or noises, all black and silent He climbed down further and discovered the upper part of the wreclo td varriage, which had stuck fast in an obstruction, but the flooring on which the men stood had torn oft and gone down into the depths with its human burden. Swartz is confident that all the men are dead. HjBISTING ENGINEER LOST CONTROL OF HIS ENGINES. PEOPLE'S STORE, "To make a long story short I finally bought a couple of packages at the nearest drug store and took two or three tablets after each meal, and occasionally a tablet between meals, when I felt any ,feeHng of nausea or discomfort. "I was surprised at the end of the jflrst week to note a marked improvement in my appetite and general health, and before the two packages were gone I was certain that Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets was going to cure completely, and they did not disappoint me. I can eat and sleep and enjoy my coffee and cigar, and no one would suppose I had ever known the horrors of dyspepsia. "Out of friendly curiosity I wrote to the proprietors of the remedy ask. ing for information as to what the tablets contained, and they replied that the principal ingredients were asceptic pepsin (government test), malt diastase and other natural digestives, which digest food regardless of the condition of fhe stomach." Deafness Cannot Be Cured by loeftl applications, as they cannot .reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cm re deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling; sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless Hie inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; uine cases out or ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an Inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. , We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. M.
