Admiral Togo has established a complete blockade around the southern end of the Liao- Tung, peninsula, while the Japanese, land forces have swept the Russians from the third defenses, west of Dalny and in the immediate rear of the port. Rebels Defeat Dominican Troops. greasing. Cape Haitien, May 27.—A serious battle has been fought between the Dominican troops and the revolutionists at Esperanza, on the road from Mont« Cristi to Santiago, near Mao. The revolutionists were victorious. Many were killed or wounded on b«th sides General Raoul Cabrera, minister ol war, who commanded the govcrnmeni troops, was killed, and his body was taken to Navarette. A Russian gunboat in Talienwan bay tried to draw off some of the fire by attacking the left flank of the Japanese. The start was good and prompt, and Shaw, on the favorite, Irish Lad, went out and set the pace, followed by Hcrmls and The Picket. Passing the stand the first time, Irish Lail was leading by a head from Ilermis, with The Picket in third position and Highball at his throatlatcl). The others were trailing. This order was maintained around the paddock turn and into the backstretch. Going down the backstretch, Ilermis moved up to the favorite, and the pair ran like a team to the head of the homestretch. Waldlman, There was heavy firing 9n the easterly side of the peninsula on the hills north of Dalny during tho afternoon, and it could be noticed from the gulf that the Japanese had advanced perceptibly at nightfall. At sunrise the fighting was continued, and it evidently Is the purpose of the Japanese to surround Part Arthur from Dalny bay to Toepentz bay, thus completely isolating the fortress preparatory to the siege. Specially constructed tracks liave been laid from Kinchau bay, running northerly, for tho heavy artillery which the Japaneso Intend to use in attempting to reduce the fortifications of Port Arthur.
