Y., May 11.—The mysterious derailment of the Adams Express company's Boston flier at the Byraiu river bridge, near hero, Is being carefully investigated, but the two men who had first knowledge of the wreck, the engineer and fireman, are dead. It is certain that the train took a switch at the extraordinary speed of more than fifty miles an hour and subsequently dashed off the track, but why it did not slow up before reaching the switch is a pofnt still unexplained. Tokio, May 11.—Admiral Toga reports that, since May 6th, many explosions have been heard in the direction of Port Arthur. The cause has not been ascertained, but the impression is that the Russians arc destroying their ships previous to the evacuation ot the port. Reports that the wreck was caused by an attempt to derail the train by robbers were called absurd by officers of the road. There were also rumors that the engineer was dead in his cab before the wreck, but Superintendent Browne said that if that was the case the fireman would have known and have taken the throttle. Bread is The of Life Staff London, May 11.—-A Chee-Foo correspondent of the Renter Telegram Co. sends an unofficial report to the effect that the Russians have destroyed their fleet at Port Arthur. A Russian scouting party encountered the enemy seven miles from U.I an and eighteen miles northward of Pekton, near the Yulu river. The enemy's force was composed of 200 Korean soldiers and 200 Japanese wearing Korean uniforms. The force occupied a position on the steep heights. After a well sustained tire the ehemy withdrew There was said to have been $500,000 in money and mail and express packages worth $1,000,000 more on the train. There were no passengers. T 46% 45% London, May 11.—The Rome coriespondemt of the Exchange Telegraph Co. says that an official dispatch has been received there from Che-Foo stating that, owing to the simultaneous advance of the Japanese from Feng- Wang-Cheng and New-Chwang, the Russians consider their position at Liao-Yang as untenable and are already preparing to fall back on Mukden, where the first serious attempt to resist the Japanese advance is to be made. This is the first report received that the Japanese are at New- Chwang. The Russians, he says, lost heavily. Lieutenant General Zassalitch being among the killed. Herman Oelrichs Injured. The most intense excitement prevails, and at the Inquest there were 500 people gathered. There is a great difference of opinion as to the cause of Wentx's death, whether accident, sulfide or murder. San Rafael, Cal., May 11.—Herman Oelriclis was thrown from a bicycle lute in the afternoon and severely injured about the bead while riding near his country home in Ross valley, Marin county. The Daily Chronicle's Tokyo correspondent declares that Port Arthur will be bombarded with heavy guns and that a concentrated assault will be made on a well knowu vulnerable point in the defenses. The correspondent adds that the Russians have cuptured forty-six junks on the Liao river laden with Chinese government rice which was destined for Tientsin and that Viceroy Yuanshaikai has strongly protested against this action. A Russian scouting party encountered the enemy seven miles from U.I an and eighteen miles northward of Pekton, near the Yulu river. The enemy's force was composed of 200 Korean soldiers and 200 Japanese wearing Korean uniforms. The force occupied a position on the steep heights. After a well sustained tire the ehemy withdrew There was said to have been $500,000 in money and mail and express packages worth $1,000,000 more on the train. There were no passengers. The Daily Chronicle's Tokyo correspondent declares that Port Arthur will be bombarded with heavy guns and that a concentrated assault will be made on a well knowu vulnerable point in the defenses.
