Co. believe they lave captured the men responsible for* the recent robbery of the Lackawanna station of that company and several other robberies that have occurred Hn that vicinity of late. Officers Spellman and Casey, assisted by Chief of police Cosgrove, of Duryea, have been! doing some quiet detective work in Duryea during the past week, and their suspicion was directed to a house on the back road, near Edsall & Clausen's store, which was occupied by a large crowd of foreigners—men, women and children. The house was raided by the officers last evening about 6.30 o'clock, and three men were place'd under arrest. After they had been takan to the borough lockup the house was searched and a large quantity of chickens, cigars, candles, cigarettes, mine toolH, saws, hammers, overalls, etc., were found. The officers took possession of the goods, and sortie of them today were identified by iPatten Taylor, a Lackawanna storekeeper, as articles stolen from his store. The officers are now In search of a Wan who escaped from the house beffcje the raid, also another rendezvous, where it is believed additional booty will be found. Harrlsburg, Pa., April 5.—It is expected that although several names for the Supreme Court Judgeship will be presented to the Republican State convention, tomorrow, Governor Pennypocker will be nominated' by a large "majority. "The convention will be harmonious," says State Chairman Penrose, "and the first ballot will settle who is to be the candidate for Supreme Court Judge." There are at least 200 uninstructed delegates to the convention and these are all ready to vote for Governor Pennypacker, which makes his nomination a certainty. Jefferson City, Mo., April 5.—A desperate attempt to blow up the Missouri penitentiary was discovered early this morning. Keeper Williams was held up by a prisoner, who was armed. Williams attacked with a poker, whereupon the prisoner fired. The wardmaster heard the shot and sounded an alarm. John Breener, assistant yardmaster, arrived and was the only one of the number of guards who had nerve enough to go where Williams wit a with two guns, one for himself, the other for Williams. 9°th proceeded to the cell, where 50 opnvicts had been assembled. The convicts shouted a warning to Williams and Breener to stand back They answered with a fusillade of shots. The prisoners then submitted.
