Washington, Jan. 11.—Secretary Hay has ignored General Reyes' request that the correspondence which has passed between the state department and himself regarding affairs on the isthmus of Panama be transmitted to the senate. In Mr. Hay's reply to General Reyes' second note sent to the Colombian envoy no reference is made to that request. It is known that the officials of the state department resented the suggestion of General Reyes as highly Improper, and for that reason its answer does not discuss this request. \ gate commerce $21,804,391,000. For most of the countries the figures stated relate to the year 1002, in a few cases they are for 1001 and in some cases for 1903. The aggregate of the world's commerce at the present time may therefore be set down in round figures as $22,000,000,000. While presumably all exports become hi turn imports, the stated value of these imports exceeds by more than $1,000,000,- 000 the stated value of the merchandise in question when stated as exports. This increased value in the statement of merchandise Imported when compared with the statement of value of the same merchandise when exported is accounted for in part by the value added through transportation, insurance, etc., and in part also by the fact that statements of value are more carefully and rigidly made when the goods are Imported than in the statements supplied on exportation. Under the term "exports" is included simply the domestic merchandise of the countries in question and under the term Stegmaier Brewing Co . WILKOBA8BE, PA. Evans Bros. "A blind man's dreams are not like those of other people, but consist almost entirely of sensations of sound. He cannot dream of scenes and places, for he lias never seen them. "The sensation of sound and motion takes the place in the dreams of the blind of the objects which appear in the visions of the night to those who can see. I speak of those who have been blind always, for of course with those who once could see their dreams may be filled with visious of people and places which their waking eyes cannot now behold, but which may appear vividly in sleep. But one who has always been blipd cannot dream of seeing." 46 South Main St., Pittston. "That a system of postal checks be authorized for the transmission of small sums of money through the mails. "That congress earnestly consider the propriety of granting an annuity to railway postofflce clerks who arc permanently disabled in line of duty or worn out through long, fnithful service. "That congress consolidate the third nnd fourth classes of mail matter and fix the rate of postage at a cent for each two ounces or fraction thereof. "That a small appropriation be made by congress to investigate the feasibility of telephone service tn connection with the rural free delivery service." Mr. Payne concludes hie report with a warm commendation of "the zeal, vigor and fidelity" showw by Fourth Assistant Postmaster General Bristow In the, investigation of the department, which, he says, "it ia hoped has eradicated all dishonest. Irregular and criminal practices." A Small Churoh Riot. Pittsburg, Jan. 11.—Three men created a small sized riot in St. Casimir's Lithuanian Roman church, on the south side, by making the declaration that Sisters of Charity were not good women. The men were denounced by the pastor, Rev. Father John S. Sutkeitls, as anarchists and boldly declared that they were implicated in the plot to assassinate President McICinley. The occasion for the trouble was at a meeting to arrange for the work in the parochial schools of the church.
