The Two Approaches Guarded. Notning has occurred recently to indicate tjint the Colombians are moving toward the isthmus, and the situation Is distinctly quiet. The naval authorities have derided that there is no need to send re-enforeeuientp. There are two routes by which the Colombians might reach Panama territory from the Atrnto rirer, on the gulf of Darien. Both are old and were proposed as canal routes and surveyed'by Lucia n In 1870. The northern route is from Acantl, in the gulf of Darien, over the low mountains toward Yaviza, while the other route is up the Atrato river and thciicc via the Cacaiica river and over the Tulo Mountain pass, which also ends at Yaviza. It follows, therefore, that Captain Butler's company of marines at Yaviza covers both these approaches.Holiday Books and Games. ANDREWS' BOOK STORE. Indeed the first step in this direction already has been taken by several foreign powers through their representatives here, who liave informed General Rafael Reyetof the futility of any attempt by Colombia to retake Panama, declaring that it will result only in forcing the Bogota government Into war with the United States, and have said to him that the result of such a catastrophe Colombia herself must realize.
