THE CHILDREN SHIVER Jamesville, Wis., Nov. 18.—Miss Katie Kinney, aged 17 years, swallowed strychnine last night, evidently with suicidal intent, but Dr. M'errltt saved her life. Hazel Miller, a chum of Miss Kinney, a few days ago tried to end her life by taking morphine, but was saved by Dr. Merritt. Both girls belong to good families and are of a coterie who are inseparable companions. The Miller girl went with Miss Kinney when she bought the poison last night and the authorities are working on the theory that a suicide club has been formed among these young girls. The Colombian commission arrived on the German steamship Scotia. The members were transferred to the Mayflower, which was lying near the pier. SENSATIONAL ARREST. What Mortal Respected Young Man of South Nyack Children's Coats Charged With Serious Crime. Could Ask Nyack, N. Y., Nov. 18.—Late last night the police got Frank Davis, 20 years old, of South Nyack, out of bed and arrested him on suspicion of having assaulted and robbed station agent H. R. Hope on Monday night. The arrest caused a sensation. Davis Is the son of a respected family. The evidence is circumstantial. Two chums testified that last winter Davis plotted with them to rob Hone. After the toasts "The President" nnd "His Majesty Edward VII." had been drunk standing and the orchestra had played the national anthems of both nations, Secretary of the Treasury Shaw, the principal speaker of the evening, was introduced and responded to the toast "Our Merchant Marine."The Colombians asked the Panamanians If they would return to the republic of Colombia, assuring them concessions and considerations on the passage of a canal treaty. The I'anamani ans replied that they would not return to the republic of Colombia and declared the assurances came too late, as Panama's position was so advantageous and strong that tbey could not see any reason for changing. YALE-HARVARD CONTEST. Minister Herran, through whom the Panama canal treaty was negotiated, succeeded Jose Vincent Concha because Concha refused to agree that the United States should have "perpetual control" of the strip wherein the canal was to be dug. At that time Dr. Herran was secretary of the legation. Dr. Herran promptly protested against the recognition of the new republic by the state department. Over 10,- 000 tickets were sent to Yale, and she Is still clamoring for more. Harvard undergraduates took about 10,000 and the graduates 3,000. Public season ticket holders secured 6,000. There will be no public sale of tickets, as there were none left after the regular applications had been filled. "Without attempting to give the reasons therefor," he said, "I content myself with stating the fact that forty years ago we had only one-fourth aa much foreign commerce to transport aa we have now, yet we actually carried in American bottoms forty years ago three times as much foreign commerce as we carry today. Hazel Miller, a chum of Miss Kinney, a few days ago tried to end her life by taking morphine, but was saved by Dr. Merritt. Both girls belong to good families and are of a coterie who are inseparable companions. The Miller girl went with Miss Kinney when she bought the poison last night and the authorities are working on the theory that a suicide club has been formed among these young girls. What Mortal Respected Young Man of South Nyack Children's Coats Charged With Serious Crime. Could Ask Nyack, N. Y., Nov. 18.—Late last night the police got Frank Davis, 20 years old, of South Nyack, out of bed and arrested him on suspicion of having assaulted and robbed station agent H. R. Hope on Monday night. The arrest caused a sensation. Davis Is the son of a respected family. The evidence is circumstantial. Two chums testified that last winter Davis plotted with them to rob Hone. After the toasts "The President" nnd "His Majesty Edward VII." had been drunk standing and the orchestra had played the national anthems of both nations, Secretary of the Treasury Shaw, the principal speaker of the evening, was introduced and responded to the toast "Our Merchant Marine."The Colombians asked the Panamanians If they would return to the republic of Colombia, assuring them concessions and considerations on the passage of a canal treaty. The I'anamani ans replied that they would not return to the republic of Colombia and declared the assurances came too late, as Panama's position was so advantageous and strong that tbey could not see any reason for changing. YALE-HARVARD CONTEST. Minister Herran, through whom the Panama canal treaty was negotiated, succeeded Jose Vincent Concha because Concha refused to agree that the United States should have "perpetual control" of the strip wherein the canal was to be dug. At that time Dr. Herran was secretary of the legation. Dr. Herran promptly protested against the recognition of the new republic by the state department. Over 10,- 000 tickets were sent to Yale, and she Is still clamoring for more. Harvard undergraduates took about 10,000 and the graduates 3,000. Public season ticket holders secured 6,000. There will be no public sale of tickets, as there were none left after the regular applications had been filled. "Without attempting to give the reasons therefor," he said, "I content myself with stating the fact that forty years ago we had only one-fourth aa much foreign commerce to transport aa we have now, yet we actually carried in American bottoms forty years ago three times as much foreign commerce as we carry today.
