A large number of witnesses on both sides were present, but their testimony was not heard the case being disposed of on the legal points raised. Messrs. Kalston and Young, on behalf of the relator, cited the order of the Coutt endorsed upon the proceedings in lunacy, in which Mr. Funk was designated as the committee of Mrs. Barto, without setting forth that his authority was to extend as well over her person as her estate, and contended that as a distinction was recognized by the act of Assembly the order must be construed in favor of her personal liberty. Messrs. IX and J. Is. Ermentrout, for the respondent, argued that the order covered both, and could not be defeated for mere want of formality. The courts decided that Mary aud her estates were under the control of her committee, and that the Itev. Mr. Herman should have nothing to do with her. This decision rendered, the helpless woman sobbed, and rushing to a female friend hung about her neck and kissed her. But he was unhappy last Friday night.. The weather was cold you will perhaps recollect. After Dopnelganger got into bed, there was a ring at his door-bell. He thought it *vas his son i » had forgotten his deadlatch key, and so, liKe the old man he is, Doppelganger went down, "with nothing on but his night-shirt, to let the young man in. When he opened the door no one was there, and Doppelganger stepped outside to ascertain if he could see any pne near. Just as he did so, the wind banged the door to with a slam, and as it clos'-d it caught Doppelganger's night-shirt in it and held him fast. He laughed at first and tried to jerk himself loose ; but the muslin wouldn't slip. Then he thought he would pull the bell ; but it was on the other side of the wide doorway, and he found to his consternation that he couldn't reach it. It occurred to him that he might slip out of the shirt, ring the bell and then get back again. Justas he had gotten half-way out, he thought he heard some one coining down the street, and in a frenzy of fear he tried to get into the garment again ; and when he succeeded he found he had the shirt on backward, and that nobody was coming after all. By this time he felt as if he was sitting in a refrigerator on an iceberg at the North Pole, and the air became colder every minute. Then he determined to cry for help. At the very first yell, the dog in the yard across the street flew over and barked and seemed to have a yearning to ascertain the taste of Doppelgaliter's frozen legs. And only kick at it backward. But he couiinued toscream for help, and iu a few minutes all the windows iu the row were up, Mrs. Doppelganger's included. The wife of the unfortunate man would spring her rattle, so that his cries could not be heard, and not until a policeman came up ami tore Doppelgangfer loose, did she comprehend the situation.
