Not all things are good. There are exceptions to every yule'. But there is no exception to the acception in the matter of beer. There is good beer and bad beer; costly beer and cheap* beer; and some beer so bad that it does not deserve the name of beer at all. We claim that Stegmaier's Beer is the purest, richest, and finest beer in the market today. It has stood the test of time and its superior excellence has never been surpassed. Most of the help came from Gallcla. The tfoyernment became greatly as while engaging in : up pi Nng Polish nationalism it has been found necessary to bring this Polish strain Into the country. As a result, the harvesting is now about completed £nd the government is carrying the import ed haivesters free to the frontier. Professor Jenks said It Is considered the worst Industrial crash in recent years. The companyhas collapsed owing to thousands of Its Iron workers, miners, trainmen and lumbermen and their chiefs wages and salaries amouuting to $200,000. Its ruin spells a loss of $30,000,000 to those who ventured tli'cir money In the big enterprise. "The first step has been taken in presenting the/matter to the great'powers of Europe, who because of the indemnity due them from China have a right to ask to be consulted regarding a question which will affect so Intimately the financial standi lg of China. The next step of preparing and putting Into effect a suitable plan must be taken by the Chinese government IfBelf. Lot 7—Children's Fleece Lined Ribbed Sleeping Garments, all sizes, for 25 cents. "Of course a work so complicated In Its nature in a country like China is not easily carried out, and It is quite possible tliat, although the effort may be earnestly made, some time must elapse before China can succeed in fully carrying out its plans, although they may be well formulated and Inaugurated without a very long delny. If the government does succeed after a cureful length of time in giving to China a currency on the gold exchange basis the result will bq, of Inestimable benefit to the trade of the United States and of other commercial nutlons besides strengthening China in all directions."This disastrous termination marks the rude awakening of a promoter's dream of the formation of a new industrial empire In the north and discloses the great lack of confidence of Wall street's capitalists in syndicate operations. Borne Idea of the tone of the presi townrd foreigners can be gathered from the following. El Combate of Caracal!, after criticising all the umpires, said: In his statement Governor Odell Says PEOPLE S STORE. "The ground chiefly urged by the prisoners' counsel on the hearing before ine that there Is sufficient doubt as to the facts of deliberation to wan-ant the clemency sought I have duly considered. The contention seems to be that when the defendants set out from Klnderhook to go to Oreenport they had no Intention of injuring the deceased, but intended only to scare him; that such was their intention when tliey arrived at the bouse and up to the very moment when Burton's pistol was. as It is claimed, accidentally discharged, and that then In the excitement created by the fierce struggle going on between Burton and the deceased, and acting upon sudden Impulse, without reflection and without, at any rate, more than a moment's deliberation, they fired on the deceased. STEGMAIER BREWING COMPANY, 15 South Main St., Pittston. NEXT TO DRURY'S. Ambassador Held by Customs Officers. WILKESBARRE, PA. Lisbon, Sept. Delock, Siamese ambassador to Portugal, ar ived on the Portuguese frontier yesterday. He met with a rather trying reception The customs officials found eight ounces of tobacco and a box of matches among his baggage. Delock was detained for some time, but was finally allowed to proceed after being fined £2 for having an illegal article in hH baggage. The Secolo and other papers today protest In scathing terms against the over-industrious officials. The promoter, F. H. Clergue, succeeded In Interesting some of the shrewdest financiers in the east. Millions were poured into the enterprise, which, according to the glittering prospectus, was to develop one of nature's richest spots. In the pricking of the huge bubble Wall street once more saw to what a depth Industrial finance has fallen. Binghamton, N. Y., Sept. 22.—A hearing was given this morning In the case of State Senator George E. Green's attorneys won a victory by retaining the case before the United States commissioner in this city. 'l:ie case was adjourned until Sept. 28. ing Purposes Killed. Albany, X. Enormity of ths Crime Fully Known "Let them drink champagne and drown themselves in the foam of liquor, but let them not clink their cups with those of the victims whom they have come to sacrifice!" "I don't think this view of the cose Is tenable. The defendants must have expected that when Hallenbeck found himself confronted with four armed men, masked and disguised, he would understand at once that danger was Imminent, that his life was threatened and that he would act accordingly. The conditions to support the view contended for, I think, do not exist. Employees Suffer Heavy Lou. It Is also admitted that $200,000 duo to workmen and minor ofilciuls cannot be paid, as the company's treasury was depleted. On an average, pay for ouo month and a half Is due the company's employees. The company obtained great neesslons from the Ontario government, and Its timber lauds are said to be of great extent. It came Into corporate being chiefly through the efforts of Francis H. Clergue, who is recognized as being one of the great promoters of today. He is suld to have come from Bangor, Me., and from there he traveled through the northern portion of Ontario, where his operations attracted the attention of two continents.. Ontario hailed the Americin promoter with groat acclaim. There are fully 8,000 fugitives in this neighborhood and more are coming in daily. They report an awful state of affaire In the districts which they left. The state authorities do not expect to get much evidence from the natives of the Adirondaclts, who seem to be united in shielding one another.
