J., Sept. 3.—Chief Justice Gummore today instructed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty in the trial of the eleven officials of the North Jersey Street Railway Co., charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Ernestlna Miller, at the Clifton avenue crossing, Feb. 19 last. The decision was agreed to by both Justices Dixon and VanSyckle, who have been associated with Gummere in the case. The Justice said no evidence hart been produced by the Slate to show in the least where either of the defendants had failed to provide every means necessary to prevent accident. Groat excitement followed. Over 50 employes were in the building at the time of the explosion and it was reported that ten had been killed. Later reports showed that the results were not nearly so serious as at first reported. Probably not more than two or three deaths will result. C„ Sept. 3.—At a meeting of the' directors of the state penitentiary it was found that a negro, llenry Allen, formerly a prisoner, was kept three years over the timo of his sentence. They state that the bomb was timed to burst while the steamer was In the port of Constantinople, but that owing to the vessel being twenty hours late In starting from Varna the explosion occurred off Mlsivria bay.
