I come back a better one, because, having seen our people on the Atlantic coust, in the Mississippi valley, in the great plains and among the Rockies and on the Pacific coast, I fall to see bow any man can look at them and not see that Inevitably they belong to the expanding and not the stationary races of mankind. Wllkesbarre, Pa., Juno 5.—The danger of n strike seems to be already passing away, even before the decision of the convention of nflners which Is to meet in Pottsvllle within ton days. This is due to the statements of the coal companies' officials and superintendents that if the mine workers at their convention should re-elect their district presidents as their representatives on the conciliation board by a miijorlty vote there would be no further objection to their eligibility to serve on the board. This action will most likely be taken at the coming convention, as the leaders of the mine workers are not desirous of forcing the issue to a suspension of work unless they can find 110 other alternative. Con-siderable dissatisfaction exists In the different districts over the delay in ad- Justing differences. The strange phenomenon of a smoke darkened sun had its effect on the spirit and behavior of the people of New York. The odor of the burning wood caused alarm in many parts of the city.
