The boy was taften to the Mount Vernon hospital, where he revived, but while the doctors were arranging to examine him on the operating table he jumped out of a window attired only In his trousers and undershirt and made his escape. When last seen he was riding on a freight train toward Manhattan. Washington, May 30.—Memorial Day was observed at the national capital with appropriate exercises. Wliile the principal celebrations wore at Arlington and the Soldiers' Ho'ne National cemeteries, the survivors of the G. A. R. had planned services for all the burying grout'.'fs and tunred out In force to honor the memory of dead comrades. A feature of tt.e day was the active participation of Spanish War veterans in the ceremonies. These younger men relieved the older comrades of guard duty at some of the services.Weather conditions have Improved, particularly as regards the great staple crops, although considerable losses linve occurred in garden truck and other minor farm products at the east 6wlng to drought. Other States Flooded. Want Hmoot Unseated. Topeka, Kan., Mny 30.—The flood situation in Kansas is the worst ever known. The Kansas river bridges at Maple ipili, Kossville, Sliver Lake, Bellevue and St. George have been washed out. The new steel bridge at Williard is damaged beyond repuir and at Topeka the street railway bridge Is useless. Several hundred cattle have been drowned. Los Angeles, Cal.. May 30.—The Presbyterian general assembly unanimously adopted resolutions calling upon tile people of the United States to use their utmost endeavors to secure the expulsion of Apostle Heed Smoot from the national senate. The preamble declares that the Mormon church "persists in the active encouragement and practice" of polygamy and Smoot "is In cordial sympathy with it as a divine institution."How tho boy managed to retain his seat on one single step while the train was running at the rate of flfty miles an hour is a mystery. Montreal, May 30.—i/osses estimated at $100,000 resulted from yesterday's fires in this city. Four firemen were overeome by smoke while fighting the first blaze In the plant of the Montreal Cotton and Wool Waste company. One of them fell through a skylight and was badly injured. Sixty houses were destrwed. The outlook for winter wheat still points to a record breaking yield. Aside from some pressure to cover maturing short contracts, nothing has developed as to corn. IlecelptH for the week were 3,558,375 bushels against 1,413,3110 last year, while Atlantic exports rose to 1,03."D.803 bushels compared with only 48.501 a year ago. Wheat arrivals were 2.133,155 bushels against 1,321,138. and exports from oil ports of the United States readied 8,801,500 bushels compared with 3.085,042 a year ago. Ten cars loaded with Cruin and coal were placed on the bridge to hold it. A passenger train Is tied up at De Witt. The electric light pinnt in this city is under water. Twenty-five residence blocks on the west side and fifteen blocks on the south side an- under from one to five feet of water. The waterworks pumping station and the Burlington depot are surrounded with water. Many head of cattle, hogs and horses have gone down the stream. Washington, May 30.—Memorial Day was observed at the national capital with appropriate exercises. Wliile the principal celebrations wore at Arlington and the Soldiers' Ho'ne National cemeteries, the survivors of the G. A. R. had planned services for all the burying grout'.'fs and tunred out In force to honor the memory of dead comrades. A feature of tt.e day was the active participation of Spanish War veterans in the ceremonies. These younger men relieved the older comrades of guard duty at some of the services.Weather conditions have Improved, particularly as regards the great staple crops, although considerable losses linve occurred in garden truck and other minor farm products at the east 6wlng to drought. Other States Flooded. Want Hmoot Unseated. Topeka, Kan., Mny 30.—The flood situation in Kansas is the worst ever known. The Kansas river bridges at Maple ipili, Kossville, Sliver Lake, Bellevue and St. George have been washed out. The new steel bridge at Williard is damaged beyond repuir and at Topeka the street railway bridge Is useless. Several hundred cattle have been drowned. Los Angeles, Cal.. May 30.—The Presbyterian general assembly unanimously adopted resolutions calling upon tile people of the United States to use their utmost endeavors to secure the expulsion of Apostle Heed Smoot from the national senate. The preamble declares that the Mormon church "persists in the active encouragement and practice" of polygamy and Smoot "is In cordial sympathy with it as a divine institution."How tho boy managed to retain his seat on one single step while the train was running at the rate of flfty miles an hour is a mystery. Montreal, May 30.—i/osses estimated at $100,000 resulted from yesterday's fires in this city. Four firemen were overeome by smoke while fighting the first blaze In the plant of the Montreal Cotton and Wool Waste company. One of them fell through a skylight and was badly injured. Sixty houses were destrwed. The outlook for winter wheat still points to a record breaking yield. Aside from some pressure to cover maturing short contracts, nothing has developed as to corn. IlecelptH for the week were 3,558,375 bushels against 1,413,3110 last year, while Atlantic exports rose to 1,03."D.803 bushels compared with only 48.501 a year ago. Wheat arrivals were 2.133,155 bushels against 1,321,138. and exports from oil ports of the United States readied 8,801,500 bushels compared with 3.085,042 a year ago. Ten cars loaded with Cruin and coal were placed on the bridge to hold it. A passenger train Is tied up at De Witt. The electric light pinnt in this city is under water. Twenty-five residence blocks on the west side and fifteen blocks on the south side an- under from one to five feet of water. The waterworks pumping station and the Burlington depot are surrounded with water. Many head of cattle, hogs and horses have gone down the stream.
