Rendered Last Evening by the Pupila of the Hughestown Schools. Leek Cornet Band Will Play at Key. stone Hall, Monday Evening. That flip people of Hughestown borough take an Interest in their schools Is shown by the attendance on the closing exercises held last evening In the iiall of the school building by the pupils of Prof. Toy and Miss Florence Abbott. The hall was packed to Its utmost capacity, and many were unable tc gain admission. The entertainment was generally said to be one of the best ever given by the Hughestown schools. The opening selection was a cantata, entitled "A Trip to Europe," rendered by a mixed chorus, under the direction of Prof. _ Henry Harries. Nearly all of the pupils took part and the work was most creditable. A very pretty feature was the garland drill by 12 girls, dressed in white, with ropes composed of pink roses. Miss Violet Schmaltz gave a recitation. "Mr. Captain. Stop the Ship." that was quite clever. The hoot black drill, by ten boys, five of whom represented negroes, was the most amusing feature of the evening, and provoked no end of laughter. A comic song In English and German comprised a portion of the boys' performance. Another cantata was rendered, entitled "The GypsD Festival," being produced by boys anil girls in costume. Thomas Bartlctt took the part of the Yankee peddler, while Albnrta Gardner was the gypsy fortune teller. All of those who took part wore appropriate costumes and the stage represented a gypsy camp. The Chinese march, by 1(1 girls in cos-' tume. was also very attractive, Chinese lanterns being artistically handled by the girls. Russell Rnmage sang very pleasingly "My Gallant Crew." On account of the entertainment being so successful and In order to accommodate many people who were unable to gain admission last evening, the programme \frlll be repeated this evening. Much credit is due the teachers. Prof. Toy and Miss Abbott, who drilled the children, and also Prof. Harries, who had charge of the music. A concord of sweet sounds will Issue on Monday evening, June 1. from Keystone hall, lor at that time and place the l.eek Cornet Band will give a concert and dance. The concert will be given between 8 and 9 o'clock and dancing will then be started and continued until a late hour. SHupp London, May 29.—A careful Inspection of Chamberlain's Zollverein project shows that it Is bound to have a most important bearing on Anglo- American trade relations. Forty per cent, of the total American exports at present go to England, while only six per cent, of British exports go to America. Chamberlain's idea involves practically a commtVclal war with America for the benefit of the Canadian wheat grower with a resulting depression to American farming and milling industries. The jealousy which the American industrial invasion of England has aroused Is likely to stimulate public support for Chamberlain's scheme. The quebtlon is exciting the public more than anything since the South African war. Confession of Faith. Dr. Van Dyke was frequently Interrupted by applause from the commissioners. He said he wished to make It clear to the assembly and especially did he wish to say to the brethren of the press "that this revision does not mean that the Presbyterian church has changed her base one Inch, but It does mean that she has broadened and strengthened her foundations. The full band of nearly 30 pieces will furnish the music for dancing as well as the concert. An admission of 25 cents will be charged. Following will be the numbers of the concert: "Star-Spangled Banner." Moret; "Hiawatha March," Moret; "Medley Overture," J. W. Chat(away: "Song and Dance, A Bunch of Roses," W. P.
